Treat yo'self to a copy of Lost Lanes. Tonnes of good routes starting with a short train journey from Kings Cross/St Pancras - before you know it you're in the countryside and it's glorious. We recently did the Herts farm ride which starts with a FCC train from Kings X and I'd totally recommend it.
