Great photos, Vesalius - and thank you for making yesterday as near to fun as 200km in wind and freezing rain coud be. Got on my bike this morning to cycle to the river, got to the end of the road, turned round and came straight home - I think I have now used up my last reserves of willpower.

That was on exceptionally wet ride, if the water wasn't coming from the skies it was flooding the roads or being sprayed up from riders wheels...
None the less, finished, and managed to ride an additional 60km home as well... started at 6am, home by midnight...
KT - I'm impressed you even attempted to ride today, I can't walk anymore...

Went to sign up for Watership Down on Saturday and registration closed :(

Yeah, same ^
Nothing to stop you just turning up and doing it without a brevet card, though!

To the Poor Students: Chapeau Bas! Grim looking puddle up there!
@pharoh If you really want to go, my advice is to contact the organiser directly and ask nicely. Def' no entry on the line, but you might be lucky to get on late, and be able to pay in cash on the day or something.

Also come on the Worthing Winter Warmer, it's nice country and the catering's marvellous!

Yeah, same ^

Don't even know why I bother with the brevet cards. I'm just there for the cake.

Have you emailed the organiser? there are often entries on the line, or another way to accept a late entry - I'm sure organisers wouldn't turn people away this early in the year?

Really? That bit was lovely - and I think it had mostly stopped raining by that point so was probably feeling a little cheerfuller.
-
• #2087
Cheerfuller, that's definitely a word I'll use in future.

Yeah, that's my place top-right. You're welcome in for tea but please take your shoes off.
:)

Not really. I live ~ 5 miles away though.

Now my elbow is getting to the point I think I can ride fixed again and I'm planning on qualifying and completing the PBP 2015, a few questions may arise.
In regards to differences between a fixed that'll be comfy for 100 miles to one that'll be comfy for +300km audax'?
On my last fixed I used either risers or bullhorns and found bullhorns to be comfy on 100 milers.
For example would an on one pompino be good enough for audaxing or an out and out no no?
The only way to know if a bike is comfy for 1200km is to ride it 1200km. Certainly if you do rides of 200, 300, 400 and 600km on a bike and it's comfy you've got a good chance for 1200km. The qualifying rides (2/3/4/600) should help you weed out any comfort niggles.
Saying that, I did PBP 2011 on a bike (and saddle) I'd only ridden 50km on before the start (it was an insurance replacement hurried through with just a week to go). Luckily it was sized/built for me (by Condor) after sitting on their sizing jig and getting everything measured. The previous version I'd done many an Audax on (including several 600s) so I was happy with the comfort.
Bullhorns are great for long fixed rides: http://www.greenbank.org/audax/pbp_02.jpg Just remember that tri-bars aren't allowed on PBP (I prefer bullhorns+tribars but took them off for the PBP year to get used to not having them).
Pompinos are fine for PBP, I know a few people who've done PBP on them in the past.
As for Audaxes, I'll be doing Brazier's Run (100) in Feb again this year and cycling from SW London to the start (and possibly back home again) for a nice 250km day.
I'll also give Manotea's Ditchling Devil another bash in June (this time not using unfitness as an excuse to wimp out with gears).
Doubt I'll go for PBP 2015, can't justify all of the time away from the family.

Sam @ lmnh was telling me about this. Good stuff.

^^^ no problem at all - I may need to do the same.

Not really. I live ~ 5 miles away though.
I knew that! It is, however, the house that Vesalius is going to buy when he is a rich surgeon ... I decided for him. I did get a lot of house envy round there.

No-ones happy when their pile of bricks is worth a million quid. A decent vegetable patch, on the other hand ...

Right, I've just filled in my form for the Worthing Winter Warmer. It is about time I got my fat backside moving again, I haven't really been justifying my membership of audax uk much. Allez, etc etc.

Anyone else riding the Willy Warmer (I know...) this weekend? - http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/14-943/
I'm planning on riding out and back to the start to ramp up the mileage to 300km for the day...

I thought Willesden would've made more noise about it.
I might steal the route and do it when there's less ice around and I'm not attending Champions Night. #boastpost
^Awww yeaaahh
The Poor Student, tough day out for sure, but good fun at times and definitely needed the exercise.
Nice to do the whole 200 with KT and Yossarian as well :)
a small selection of pics, will probably write something for the AC Hackney website and put a few more on there
