When was the last time the drivetrain got serviced?
-
• #553
Semi-regular servicing does occur but that's a separate pool of money (constant maintenance fees vs splashing out on bling).

Nice to see them come out favorably in the review. the 52mm's have sold out now in my fitting so I've got a bit of time to think on it or just get the 60mm's instead.

Anyone ever used planetX crash replacement warranty?
I went out wearing my new PlanetX helmet for the first time and went down hard twice.. wouldn't mind a fresh one.
-
• #557
I think it's clearly stated that Crash Replacement Warranty works on bicycle frames only.

Helmets are meant to break, lolz.

Precisely, If it break, it doing it job correctly, buy another one and get ready to come down hard again.

I thought it was a poor business model

Ordered a few items last year, still haven't received my parcel. Sent two emails, but no reply. Going to email to ceo@planetx.co.uk now. Fingers crossed.

Have you tried ringing the shop? They are usually better at answer the phone rather than emails

Or collar brant over on stw, seems to take ownership of problems once mentioned there

What do you lot think of this bike?

I'm recommending it to my housemate as a nippy, fun, day ride alternative to his Dawes Galaxy. Looks like it'd sort him out, he's after carbon and it appears to just be a rebranded PX pro carbon frame with (almost) full Tiagra for a really good price.
Good deal? Alternatives at that price?

Will try calling them, thanks.

I have no idea what this means.

Brant is the chief designer at On One, and he hangs out on SingleTrackWorld.com and generally responds to people having a moan about On One on there. Alternatively, tweet him @shedfire.

Oh, got it.
I rang the shop and apparently my parcel was lost in the post, so they will send whatever they have in stock and refund the rest.

The other option is the alu Planet X at £100 less, and in a much bigger range of size.

Cheers, anything else carbon that you can think of for that spec/price?
The frame on the Holdsworth appears to be one they sell separately for £350 (branded as Holdsworth) or £500 branded PX. Can't find the alu frame sold separately, but £599 is about the price of the basic ribble audax isn't it?
-
• #572
Why carbon? at that price point, you're better off staying with alu instead, especially when they both weigh the same.
The Ribble is £79 more with the same groupset.
-
• #573
Why not carbon? He's after a new bike with a carbon frame. It appears to be the same frame PX have been knocking out for a while which has got some good reviews and I've not read any horror stories about it.
I've heard high end alu is supposed to be better than low end carbon, but I don't know about low end alu vs low end carbon and for the extra hundred quid it's probably worth going for something that's:
a) going to soak up a little more road buzz,
b) have the added cachet of being carbon, rather than cheap alu
c) appears to be an excellent deal for the price. For that money, what else (ideally carbon) would you recommend or why isn't this a good deal?
Why would he be better off going for alu?

Er, seriously?

Er, seriously?
Yeah, he said he wants a carbon bike.
Cheers - my road bike's 3 years old so thought it was about time to upgrade a little (can afford £400 but not a full new bike), new wheels to replace the cheapo Easton ones it came with seems like the best starting point to me.
