Chainset selection is always an important part of the build and sets the tone somewhat. Previous incarnations have had Miche Primato and Miche team issue both of which have since been sold, and besides, I'm like, so over 135mm BCD now? I have a Sugino Mighty Fluted chainset in a box in the shed and another fluted chainset by Gipiemme - I was thinking of using the Sugino with a Hefty Gebhardt chainring, but then I spotted this on ebay, something I've always wanted, and in the sort of condition I might be able to afford (I won it for £30 including postage), so I was rather pleased and decided it will set the scene for the rest of the build...
These are the ebay photos - sold with 48/42 /sugino rings, seized-on Maillard Aero pedals and the original ring bolts, crank bolts and dust caps...
I know it's not really within the ethos of this thread to be bringing new kit into the shed, but it's the pearl of greatest price and I've always wanted one!
It arrived on Thursday in as bad a state as the seller had described, pedals came off OK but it was quite a job to clean it up....

I've also got the original drillium supermighty track ring which I fitted this evening. Mrs VL votes for drillium first, Gebhardt 2nd and the simple Ofmega one 3rd.... I'm not completely convinced, my thought at the moment is to strip the print from the Gebhardt..
