  • Until I'm drunk, obviously.

  • "I reckon it depends on the individual. For example:
Me: 2 pints - useless the next day
Friend: hammered. Puke on start line. Wins race....."

    Ha. Been there done that.

  • TT forum is a whole load of tosh. More noise than signal.
Very few decent things discussed there. Just waffle.

  • No unicorns either.

  • TT forum is a whole load of tosh. More noise than signal.

It somehow manages to be simultaneously over-moderated and under-administrated, so people start loads of new threads for stuff which is already well covered, and you can't call them a cunt for so doing.

  • I'd fix that place right up. #smackdown

  • I'm looking for some advise on event promoting...

We (Islington CC) are looking to put on our first TTs. The hope is to run some 'come and try it' club TTs this year and then an open event in 2015.

I've been in touch with the local district sec who seems to think this is feasible, but now i need a bit of help. I've got tonnes of CTT documents to read but I wondered if anyone on here could help me figure it all out. Right now I'm thinking about what order everything needs to be organised in, what course to use and when to hold the events.

Probably looking at a small number of 10 mile events run at weekends this summer.

  • I'd try TT forum. Not that people here can't help. But a lot of organisers post there and they'll tell you simply what you need to do.

Clubman is the only person here who I know organises events, though there will doubtless be others.

  • The TT forum would be best for this q. There's loads of organisers on there.

clubman might offer some hints. Not sure who else has organised races.

Don't you have to fill in a paper form and mail it in order to make a post there?

  • ^ ha! probably

I asked here because I post here more often and try to be involved in LFGSS. TT forum isn't always the friendliest of places if your not an expert. I suppose they are experts, which is exactly why i should be asking them.

Turns out there was loads of info here: http://www.timetriallingforum.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=25644

  • LFGSS folk might be able to recommend a nice course easily accessible from Islington area. I ride the Brickendon 10s in the summer but don't know many other courses.

  • F11/10 is reasonably accessible from North London, and you'd get plenty of riders. F20/10 is possible too. Which District are you affiliated to? You don't actually have to use courses in your own District, but you do need the permission of the District whose courses you use.

  • We're in London North, so both F11/10 and F20/10 would suit us except that one is quite far for our riders to come and one is a dual carriageway. Neither are ideal for encouraging new riders to try it out. I know there are lots of courses used by local clubs on minor roads but they don't seem to be listed anywhere. The F20/10 could be good, if the event was early morning.

  • Yes, http://www.lndc.org.uk/ don't seem to have an online list of club courses, and their club courses have weird codes. They could learn something from LWDC, where club courses are HCC coded, and listed on the website

  • West is best.

H12/8? Does anyone know anything about this course? I didn't think there were any 12s in London West?

  • New course? Most of the Newbury RC courses are based on the A4, usually west of Newbury.

  • I see.

It's the week before the National 24hr so if I'm gonna defend that, I won't be doing Newbury unfortunately.

  • Isn't that Scherrit's manor these days? Can't he find out more from them?

What is the probability of you defending your title? 50/50? 80/20?

It's a new course based on the A31, same as the H100/88 but you just keep going round and round. It has become possible since the regulation change allowed unlimited repeats of a circuit exceeding 20 miles.

Unfortunately, there will be no such equivalent on the A4 as the circuit used repeatedly for the H50/1 is only 15 miles and can't be extended to 20 without encountering insurmountable risk assessment obstacles.

Yeah, they're nearby and it's west district which means no 3am rises or overnight accomm. so it would be good to support it. But if I do decide to do the 24 again, no chance.

Erm.. I guess it's probably a little more than 50% because it's clearly something I'm alright at so why enter 25s.. but I've 'done' it so it doesn't really hold the same appeal now. The comp record is the only reasonably appealing target and that's a long way off my ability. I know I could go further than 518 but I don't reckon that much further.

I've spoken to Scherrit and 12s are going to get some attention this year. I'm fed up with getting so close to the club record. So, I might schedule more than one of these in order to get it done.

Eeeew... 12 hours of that Bentley course? There's really no detours off it??

    Out.
