Isn't 27" the "new" MTB standard?

No, that's 650B, which is in between 26 and 29 inch.

Oh well, if it isn't a MTB standard now, it will be by next week.

I found some (fairly poor quality) 27" rims on ebay and have built them up for use on my winter bike. This was about a year ago. At the time, the only other rims I recall seeing were made by Velocity. BLB could get them in, but it they were expensive... I seem to remember £60 each but that may not be correct.

Just spent a lot of time for decent tyres for 27" wheels so you might be able to get the wheels but the tyres will cost you the same again if you can find decent ones.
Wiggle if you were wondering

You will only find basic 27" wheels nowadays.

On my old tourer I bought Sun double walled rims from the US and Arup built them up on to Shimano 600 hubs to match groupset. The customs charge was the price of a rim.
So nobody tried these Wilko's? -

60 seems a lot but isn't that about standard for mavic 700s?

27s show up on ebay plenty and tyres are pretty readily available from Conti and whoever makes World Tours.
2 years ago, I couldn't find 27" wheels for love nor money, bar 'vintage' ones or Wolber rims.
Now several sites seem to be stocking Wilkinson QR's, jejames has the front for £22.49.
Cyclesurgery do a Raleigh! nutted for £27.
Anyone any experiences?
