worth trying, it depends on who you speak to on the day as well. A friend of mine broken the cable on her mac charger, very obviously it was wear and tear and it snapped in the end after many layers of electrical tapes etc. no Apple care, she went into the store and came out with a brand new charger. The guy at the store says he didn't want to have an argument with her as it was early in the morning...
Have you googled for any apple recalls? Coz it happened to 2 of my macs, one was the battery and the other one was the hard drive.
Under normal use with only so few cycles, I would say they are more likely to replace it it for you than not.
