argh disk is stuck in my macbook. Any ideas how to remove it? I can press eject and it'll make the noise but then just re insert and try to read the disk again.

Reboot the computer holding the option key down, wait for the boot drive options to appear, then press the eject key on the keyboard.
When it's out, select your boot drive and click the arrow key to boot up.

Thanks Soul. I think this is more of a mechanical problem though as it makes the noise to spit it out then automatically (before I can even see the disk) reinserts it and reads it.

I'd give it a try. If it doesn't work, i'm pretty sure there's a manual release button on the left or right side of the drive, just inside the fluffy "gate". You should be able to feel for it with a paper clip.

Ah right - wasn't aware of that.

Hang on... google tells me that might only be for older models
Have you tried the re-boot thing from my older post?

I think if the DC board was bust you wouldn't be able to use the AC adapter either. So if you can run from power but no battery, it must be the battery. Same happened to me, but it was under warranty.

mattioats, okay, thought that might be the case, but wanted to check. Bit miffed that the battery's gone so soon, but what can you do.
Will leave it a bit as I don't use the laptop regularly which is probably one of the reasons why the battery went tits up..

If the battery's newish they'll replace it... That's happened to me before...

I need to burn an MP4 to DVD (so it will play through a normal DVD player)
I'm running Mavericks - No inbuilt software to do this, am I right?
What's free and able to do what I need??
Thanks

Hold down the trackpad button whilst booting up - forces it to keep pushing it out instead of reinserting. Should get the disk out at least a few mm.

Just ordered an air for my birthday, I don't think I have ever bought myself a proper birthday present, so I bloody deserve it.

You're worth it.
Hope you maxed out the ram!

Yes I did, i7 core, 8gb ram and 256gb memory, not willing to part with over £200 to top the memory, especially hard drives are dirt cheap these days. 256gb is more than enough to run the machine efficiently I think.

worth trying, it depends on who you speak to on the day as well. A friend of mine broken the cable on her mac charger, very obviously it was wear and tear and it snapped in the end after many layers of electrical tapes etc. no Apple care, she went into the store and came out with a brand new charger. The guy at the store says he didn't want to have an argument with her as it was early in the morning...
Have you googled for any apple recalls? Coz it happened to 2 of my macs, one was the battery and the other one was the hard drive.
Under normal use with only so few cycles, I would say they are more likely to replace it it for you than not.

Where do I pick up a cheap charger for my iPhone 4s and iPad 4 around Shoreditch/Hackney Rd? I'm in London for four days and and will probably need to have the batteries topped up a bit.

Wow. Pretty much maxed out. I'm tidying with the idea of a 13 inch retina... Mac mini updates are taking forever.

Think disk utility will do this or you could download handbrake for free.

Apple has managed to piss me off with the delivery date for the air I ordered last night, so I have cancelled it. This has given me a chance to rethink if I would be better off in gettin a 13inch pro. Any thoughts? I do have a top specs early 2011 15 inch that's pretty a desktop these days, hence the desire to get a smaller one. But the 13 inch retina ones are already pretty light, ain't they? Price wise, I have done the configuration I want and even with 16GB on the pro, it'd just be £20 more, and that would probably make it an as powerful machine as my current Mac... hummm...
DC-In Board could be toasted, not allowing a charge to reach a perfectly good battery. Happened to me on an old Powerbook.
Gave me a very short window of opportunity to run a backup and pull the HDD before I sold the whole thing for spares.
