Speaking of brushing teeth, Charlie has now been booked in to have his teeth cleaned at the vets on the 20th. Its been something of a long winded process, he was in for a regular nail trim and check up a few months ago (no way he is ever letting me do that) and the vet commented on his smelly breath. I'd put it down to using his mouth as toilet paper and only eating meat, but apparently he has a mean case of gingivitis.
Whilst checking his heart and blood before agreeing to put him under to do the work, she identified some heart abnormalities which were either down to something serious or hyperthyroidism.
Results of the blood test confirm hyperthyroidism, so he is on a very strict diet of low iodine food only. This has done the trick in clearing that up, but some lingering worries about the heart remained so we had to have a day trip to the vets in Wimbledon for a full scan.
The results of that have now come back fine, so he can be sedated and get his nashers sorted out.
