To be quite honest, chainset is the least of your concern, as long you kept a small/small combo like Iain did.
Weight of cranks need to be measured with BB, tapered cranks may be lighter (500g easily, lightest I got is 480g with bolt and 44t) but the BB tend to be under 300g, whether the external cranksets are heavier (600-700g), the external BB weight under 100g.
