Eimei NJS - Full build personally imported

This is my first thread on the forum and I just wanted to show what I run (which was a project).

A couple of months ago I moved back from Japan having lived there for pretty much a year.

Whilst there I went to Keiokaku Oval to watch the Keirin racing, met up with Tomity at his store in Higashiyamato-shi and put together my full Eimei NJS as well as making some great friends at other bike stores (Tempra Cycle)/within the fixed scene in Tokyo.

The frame was ridden by a professional from Kanagawa prefecture until it was 'retired' along with him.

I realise I'm not showing a start to finish build but hopefully the photographs etc will show what went into it.

This is a picture of me with my bike and Tomity outside his store the day we finished it/picked it up:

My Eimei back in the UK in the Lake District (home until 1 November 2012):

(Rear wheel) Araya Gold rims with Asahi spokes, Flip flop Sansin Professional 100-120mm hub (15T and 16T track setup initially but now 16T and 18T), Soyo Gold Star seamless tubular tyres (other wheel is a very similar set up):

Sugino Super Mighty steel seat post, Kashimax Five Gold saddle:

Brake is Dia-Compe, new tires are Vittoria tubs and Kashimax Top Tube protector.

Sorry if this post is a bit 'full' but this is pretty much the best thing I brought back from Japan.

  • Tokyo is awesome, i went there in 2005 for two weeks and just chilled out, enjoying an amazing city. If i went back now i'd be straight into the bike shops, back then i was more into the geek shops in Akihabara and people watching in Shibuya and Shinjuku. Nice bike, good luck on that in the Lakes. I was there last weekend and had a look at The Struggle, near Ambleside. One day i'm going to try that, not on a fixie!!!

  • Lovely bike, it just needs some grips or tape now. And a good picture of it without the brake!

    Exactly what I said. Then>Porn ;)

  • did you squash the tt yourself? ouch.
    otherwise very lovely!

  • Great bike and story but I just don't understand why there are so many untaped bars on the internet. I don't ever even think about taking a photo of any bike I build before it gets tape and bar ends. No excuse for it, IMO.

  • I personally don't like tape that much but Soyo grips would probably be necessary if I rode this in winter here (which I'm not going to!).

I wanted to keep it as close to the track as possible (aside from a brake which was necessary to avoid a £500 on the spot fine in Tokyo!).

  • But you'd have grips on the track, no? They wouldn't let you on otherwise.

  • Usually just on the bottom parts of the bars for sprints. Will be picking some up when I go back to Japan in December!

  • Why in Japan? You can get grips here too!

Although I suppose if you're not riding it in the winter/at the moment, then there's no rush.

  • That is a super-nice bike, the colour is very classy.

But xNOGRIPSORTAPEx would take a lot of the fun out of riding it for me!

  • yeah, see? grips.

You can get grips in the UK, obviously.... but it's much harder getting the outfits : (
(And very hard work to get the thighs).

  • Yeah the point about me not being in a rush is the most accurate as my bike will be in storage for the winter whilst I'm on my beater.

I have mates at some bike stores in Tokyo (Tomity included) so will be just picking them up when I go to see my girlfriend at the start of December.

I know I can get them here but I may as well while I'm there!

  • Fair enough.
It's a lovely bike, strangely British in that colour with a brown saddle - looking forward to seeing some pics with grips and no brake.

  • Yeah I wanted something NJS but with a feeling of the UK about it too.

I'll be running with a front brake for now (or at least when the weather perks up) and putting grips on as soon as I buy some!

  • what happened to the top tube? http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_maltfzQe0n1qbkom8o1_1280.jpg

The racer crashed it and dinged the top tube so that's why I went for the Kashimax tube protector.

It really doesn't effect the integrity of the frame but better safe than sorry and with it being Kashimax, it's still authentic!

  • I now have this in London and am riding it on tubs at the moment.

I have missed riding steel and this will be my only fixed gear bike for now (so I will be riding this and the Cannondale as my road bike).

I just picked up some Araya RC-540 clincher rims for a great price at Kinoko though and will be relacing the Sansin Professional hubs to the clincher rims with DT Swiss double butted spokes together with replacing the saddle with something less ass destroying so I can use the bike as a daily.

  • Sold the PX?

  • Selling mate. Sad but may be moving to Japan soon and can't take all three.
