  • Not worth it, I have a dent on my laptop as well, doesn't quite allow the screen to close, but perform just fine for the last three years.

  • By design pretty much everything is in that part of the case, so it will be a fairly extensive job, but doesn't look too bad if you're comfortable with that kind of thing.

As far as parts go, ebay is probably your best bet for parts at a reasonable price, you can usually find what you're looking for in reasonable condition stripped from another used machine, might be hard/expensive to find that top case new though.

  • Thanks guys,

I would be technically able at removing all the bits and bobs, but it does look like a pain in the arse.

If I see a palm rest cover at a decent price I'll look at it the situation then.

  • Hmmm, this MacBook Air offer looks so good - or am I missing something obvious?!

  • It does look cheap, would it be not the latest mid 2013 model?

It got 4GB extra RAM over a newer one from Apple, seemed like a decent value if you don't mind the tiny hard drive they usually come with.

    Why not MacBook Pro 13"?

  • The SSD in an Air will make it faster than a MBP for most things... the base retina Pro isn't a bad option now, at £1099. Avoid the non retina.
I would assume PC World don't sell custom configurations so the extra ram will be because it's the next model up (not base).

  • I've got a 2011 13" MBP (with SSD) for sale, PM me if anyone wants more info.

  • PM Missmouse...

  • Will do, thanks Chris!

  • Mavericks OS, what are the issues, should I upgrade?
Can't be faffed with the non compatible issues at work.
I appreciate I might be a little late to the game but I live in Australia see.

  • My MacBook (2009 i think) had coffee spilled in it so i thought I'd buy a new one. Actually I'm almost broke. Can I fix it? Some keys are permanently registered as pressed ib, would i just replace the keyboard? Looks like there is an important circuit board underneath...

  • Take it into an apple store, let them diagnose it and tell you what is wrong with it, then do the repairs yourself

  • OK. booked in for sunday.

Works fine on my mac mini 4gb ram 2.6ghz and was a bit slow on old macbook 2.13ghz until I put in some more ram. The only thing that didn't work after the upgrade was some safari extension I didn't use anymore anyway. Do it!

  • A friend of mine has excellent condition 17" macbook pro for sell; this is the spec:

He is after £900; comes with all the stuff that you will get from apple store, box and other shit. PM me if anyone wants.

I've had no problems, Jones... Do it...

My 2009 iMac Intel core duo 3.33ghz / 4 gb ram seems generally a bit slower, so will finally get round to getting some more RAM. Initially I had a couple of instances of it hanging with a blank screen, but no probs since I updated IPhoto, although it may have been unrelated.

  • Cheers OG and Shane ^^

Minor gripe is the tags being less clear than labels.

  • My hard drive failed on my Macbook Pro. I took it to Apple and they replaced it as it was still under warranty, but they couldn't retrieve anything from the hard drive.

Has anyone successfully recovered data from a failed hard drive? If so what did you do? Or what companies are best for this kind of thing? Apple recommended Ontrack but looks to be very £££...

    Thanks.

  • I did it years ago on a PC with some free software. Got almost everything back, though it was in a right mess

  • ^ Thanks. Excuse ignorance but I would need a hard drive reader or similar to run such software would I?

  • my macbook pro's battery has just died over the christmas period, it's not taking or holding a charge, my system profiler says its done 185 cycles out of a 1000.

Anything I can do, or will I just have to stump up the cash for a new battery?
