What stops the keys just flopping about? Have you added spacers or something on the bolt and done up the nut tight enough so that they're not free to rotate about the bolt?

I shortened the bolt with a Dremel so it is tight and holds the keys by friction.

You could also use a washer and a coil or two from a small spring to maintain tension.
