    I have a strap cutter and some leather punches, and used them to cut a strip from an old belt made from thick calf leather. You could use a sharp Stanley knife and a metal rule. I used the punches to punch a hole at each end and to shape the ends neatly.
    You could use any bolt with a nylock nut to thread the keys through, but I found a nice sleeve bolt from an ikea wardrobe in my toolbox. (It was meant to join two wardrobes together). A couple of minutes with a Dremel to shorten it to the required length and I was done. The fold in the end of the leather was done with a big hammer.

    Simples.
