  • Saw this and loved the multi-tool key idea.

    Watched this and wanted one.
    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1912797983/orbitkey-love-your-keys

Went on instrucatbles and decided to make one whilst watching (the actually quite funny) The Heat.

Using nuts and bolts bin ended up with this. Has no discernable advantage over a key ring, yet I love it.

  • I always liked this one the best:

One of the best solutions was the keyport slide http://mykeyport.com/

The two main flaws in a lot of these key things are; a) they're often not that much smaller so why bother, b) rented accomidation / expensive keys.

Pretty sure if I loose the main key to my block it's something like £100 and can only be copied if you have the pass keys, etc. so the biggest key is not going to get fucked about with. Also you're not always sure how long you're going to live in your place for so again are you going to spend money making duplicate sets?

  • i really like the look of that kickstarter one, too bad its over, i only have small keys like that anyway, altho i imagine its not quite as good with the bulky kyrptonite lock keys

  • I do like to concept of having a 'key block' the jangling my pocket does annoy me a bit, but still its tricky for the reasons highlighted above.

    I got this for xmas:

Which has already proved to be very useful.

Dom and I were having a conversation yesterday about keyrings, and how best to stop you keys sliding round so much.

I favour a carabiner with a built in key ring like this:

But they're not easy to find at all, I actually stone mine from a water bottle. you can get one of these:

True Utility TU230 ShackleSet: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike

but it doesn't look the best quality.

    Other options are the s-biener:

Nite Ize S-Biner Size 3 Durable Carabiner - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors

Which dom had, but he tells me keys tend to slide under the lock

or you could have something like this:

But it looks like it'd fall to piece to me.

  • or BRP's key thingy - still use it everyday, bloomin' ace

  • Thats even harder to get hold of! Also I thought the clips looked rather lethal, like they'd rip you trousers to shreds, but i'm guessing you haven't noticed that as you use it every day?

  • they are strong - bloody pinchy if you don't open them properly!! apart from that very good - he should make more, I'd buy another for long term keeps

  • yeah I pinched myself a good few times in the first couple of weeks of having one.

got my bro one of these for his birthday last year, works nicely on smaller keys, keeps a normal ring on there too for fob and larger key. Reduces jangle a bit and looks neat.

Great thing about them is they get through airport scanners....if for any reason you want to keep it with you! ( I do cos i often need a knife to cut tie-wraps on Peli cases in a hurry when I arrive somewhere....)

  • has anyone tried removing the plastic bits from the krypto bike lock keys?

  • has anyone tried removing the plastic bits from the krypto bike lock keys?

Yes, by dropping my krypto with the key still in it. What you're thinking about won't work, the metal doesn't extend very far into the plastic and is just straight.

  • That is the whole of the metal section I think. Just drilled at the end. Never thought about that.

  • I like the look of this:

By the time our summer sailing camp was over most of the boats were stripped of the hardware :-) one year it was so bad, we had to be searched - most guys hid them in a bar of soap cut in half.

  • Also have this one in my pocket. Just in case I feel like cutting off my finger when dipping in to get some change (it's extremely sharp). It works charm with small screws and nuts.

  • I tried to ask this in the 'wallet' thread but its a pretty much dead thread so i'll ask here

does anyone have a card wallet/recommendations

i have a bulky wallet but all i carry is 8 or so cards. change in my pocket and a maximum of £20 in cash which i just keep in my pocket/a card slot anyway

would prefer something with at least a 2 or 3 splits to keep the cards a bit organised but thats not essential

  • Spatr is selling his myrtle wallet in classifieds or there is also Tight wallets.

  • Bought the Bellroy Slim Sleeve post Xmas. Arrived today. If you're still looking in a week, post and I'll let you know how I'm getting on. Right off I forced myself down to 8 cards.

  • Found this, based on the leatherman idea. http://mykeysmart.com
Will mail them to see if they will post to the UK.

  • Nice

  • Awesome, cheap too. Let me know if they do. I imagine a few people here would be interested, maybe a bulk order would be worthwhile.

  • I was so impressed by the elegance and simplicity of the Orbitkey on Kickstarter that I made my own.
