    The only bits built were the Westway and the approach to the Blackwell Tunnel. There is a spur to now where on the Westway. I think it was meant to take the road down to Vauxhall Bridge...

    The whole thing collapsed mainly because local communities objected to their destruction to build urban motorways. We also had real and functioning local governement and democracy in London.

    That was the first of the (four?) planned London Ringways, I think. If they had finished them the cost would have been eye-watering. An interesting chapter in urban design. A few other cities in the UK had some genuinely terrifying schemes lined up in that period too - Birmingham was the only one that became reality
