  • Awesome bikes!

  • show-off

  • oh yeah, you can buy this rad bike here

  • Wow there are some really awesome bikes on this thread.
Some of them I have never even heard of!

  • ^Please don't take this the wrong way but is that a joke? That has to be one of the worst Cannondale builds I have ever seen.
Every single part on that could be better, from the wheels, the crank, cables, seatpost, frame etc, how did you manage to spend 5k on that?

  • Looks like Graeme Obree-does-MTBing.

Yup, it's definitely not gonna be everyone's cup of tea. Money doesn't go far nowadays, but to give you some kind of idea, as to the cost of things, here's a brief costing list:

    Respray (frame & wheels, 2Pak) + Custom stickers = £600
Forks (Brand new old stock) = £700
XT (Black) Groupset (Brand new) £1200
Carbon fibre parts (Brand new) £300
Fox RP23 Kashima shock (Brand new) £350
    Jekyll swingarm & V600 Front Triangle £150
Titanium bolts, washers & other parts (Brand new) £200
    Bassano Grimeca Magnesium Wheels £1200
    Garmin Edge 800 Satnav £300

    Total approx £5000

It's actually a little over the 5k mark but hey,
The wheel's are ultra rare, infact I've not ever seen another disk brake set on any bike, including this thread. The last offer I had for the wheels was £2,100.
The photo doesn't do the paintwork justice but it's a new chrome paint over satin black (Shadow Chrome) & 2Pak paint is tougher than crappy old powder coating.

Gorgeous ain't it Jay ;-) Get ya piggy bank open, it's up for sale soon!

  • I know how it can go, it can become a money pit really quickly! I've blown too much money on my Cannondale
I just think you've been really overcharged, and perhaps taken advantage of.
The wheelset is ultra rare because it was ultra crap, if I remember right they weigh about 2600gr. The cost of the frame, paint job and forks is crazy, you could of found a nos Super V 2000 frameset for less. I'd retrobike, you might make more back if you split it there and good luck

  • I spotted that on eBay.

Über Vs are good fun. Not quite sure how you paid that much for an XT group though.

Nos DH headshok forks are obviously crazy rare so will command a price if you really want some. Although why you would I'm not sure, other than a retro build.

I certainly believe you have ‘blown’ a lot, it can end up being a very expensive hobby after a good days trolling, through site after site, only to find that the item you really need is now out of stock.
It takes a long time to properly investigate everything, like the CPC (Cheap Powder Coating) option.
I can’t tell you how pleased with the quality of my frame, you definitely get what you pay for.
Car spraying companies want £500+ just to spray a hard tail & forks, where as I have had forks, front triangle, 2x swing arms, 2x wheels & 2 sets of stickers for £600, pretty dam good deal, hell yeah.
Sure, if you want skimp on the paintworks & cover up dents, cracks & famous metal filler, go right ahead & spend all of a tenner, it’ll look quite special, in the dark. One super thick gloopy covering of mess is not what I had envisaged for this Cannondale & I’m so glad I opted for the best. I’ve seen countless ‘top notch’ bikes totally ruined by a bad paint job.
I agree, the wheels are not adequate for heavy XC riding but they are not only light, true & smooth, they are rare, and rare means ‘loads a money’!. On a serious note, I wanted wheels that were in keeping with the age of the frame & also the Moto FR 120 forks, they are all manufactured between 1995 & 1998.
Thanks very much for the advice, it’s always great to have help promoting my items that are for sale.
Is your Cannondale project, a Super V by any chance? I do hope we get to see your spectacular creation once it’s completed?
Break it for parts? Hmmm have you seen a few items here that you would like for yourself? But yes it may well get broken down but that’s cool & then on to the next project. I personally don’t think that 5k is a lot of money for a bike nowadays but I suppose £50 is a lot to someone that is skint.

  • it's up for sale soon!

    Good luck!

  • ^^ I'm sorry I didn't mean to troll you by any means, I honestly thought you'd been ripped off or it was a joke. Everything from the XT groupset, forks, wheels, paint, rear shock, bonty finishing kit, ti bolts etc, you have been overharged for. I really did'nt know you were trying to sell it, I actually thought some bike shop had just taken advantage of you.
Bottom line is if you're happy with it great, but if you think you are going to sell it for anything close to 5k you will have trouble as I'm sure you've already found out, (ebay, road cc etc) And no, there is not one part I'd put on my bike if you split (perhaps the ti bolts but you were overcharged for them aswell).
If someone sold those wheels to you saying they were period correct or light you have well and truly been stiched up (let alone the 2k for repainted 2nd hand wheels),they are ridiculously heavy (and will fail if you merely point them DH), period correct for that frame would of been Spinergy, Spin, Spengle, or a set of handbuilt Ringle/CK's etc. The fork was the cheapest moto version (1\8th). The price for the paintjob is a joke. Please don't get me wrong 5k nowadays is not unreasonable for a bike but it certainly is for that dogs dinner of a Cannondale.

    p.s.
No super V in the works, MTB wise just finishing off a Cannondale Chase prototype and a Merc Amp not really a HHSMTB but period correct and nos, have to find a Woodman headshok stem for the Chase and a Synchros gunmetal cattleprod stem and smaller XTR outer chainring for the Amp

  • XT (Black) Groupset (Brand new) £1200

  • I don't understand how a single colour paint-job cost £600? The money on paint goes when you're asking multiple finishes with a variety of colours.

  • always liked the Laher DH, with a rohloff in the frame

    Newsboy with dura ace

    Nice Bow Ti build

  • All that money and you ended up with that fucking saddle?!

I'm so happy that my entire 853 framed, fox forked, SLX group and hope braked MTB cost less than your paint job.

  • Surely nobody really thinks he spent that much on a bike that's

    up for sale soon!
