I looked after my sisters cat for a couple of weeks. On night 1 she was scratching at the bedroom door. I snuck over to the door when I knew she was there and gave it a loud knock with my knuckle. She never did it again.
I've never owned a cat and don't know if this is a good idea but it did the job.
