I'm 1000% with you about the lack of patience but if your road position isn't normalised (i.e. nowhere near the gutter), and there is zero communication (i.e. a look back and signal) with said driver they make their mind up early, simply dismiss you as just an object in the way and pass by all means necessary. It shouldn't be this way and my suggestion may not have made the slightest bit of difference but it's one more possible step.
I had turned left onto the road and at that point was alone on the that road. The road is short so I immediately moved into the right side of the left lane ready for the single lane to split into two and for me to be in the right hand one to turn right onto the main road. The lights were red and there were already cars queuing. I have no idea where the van came from, either from the left or the right of the mini- roundabout. I was already in position so wasn't signalling or manouvering. First thing I knew about the van was hearing it, then it was coming past me, then coming back into the lane in front of me and braking to wait in line. Dude must have accelerated fast, swerved out and passed with with very little warning.
I had lights and was visible, the road is very short and the van came fast.
