  • @ Willo - She's 4 and like her mother and father will never be the tallest. I would like her to enjoy cycling.

Hadn't seen this - my post was half in jest and half the excuse of a proud dad to re-post a piccie.

Lucinda has one of those Isla Bikes - she is 4 and quite tall and has just about out-grown it; we will be buying her the next model up for Xmas with gears. Ollie, pictured on the track also has an Isla. They are very good bikes for kids.

  • ^^^ Turbo boy ;o) ^^^

Not yet. I forgot the special skewer needed to use it.

Anyway, I've ridden in enough shit conditions.
HTFU '09 is all about the vomit bucket indoors..

  • Santa is bringing this. Grand parents have bought her stabilisers? Tossers.

Is that a single speed bike with only a rear brake?

Or a fixed bike with a rear brake and no clips and straps?

Will somebody, please god, think of the children?

  • Cheers for the info ;)
Read that first link b4, very informative.
Those hakke..... nokions are well respected (read expensive) up here. The key seems to be the carbide tips on the studs.
I have a pair of studded strap-on (ahem) shoe attachments for winter running, with standard steel studs. They also seem to have worn out, grrrr!.

Sorry didn't mean to patrenise just an idea for different tyres as I know that schwalbe tyres do tned to be on the expensive side.:)

    raises hand

    Raises hand too.

Single speed with rear brake. They were thinking of the children, less chance of them going over the bars. There is also something in the headset to stop barspins.
    Check out the website.

Actually meant the cheers bit TBH.
Might get my folks to ship some over (not foldable though, so might be pricey), and winstanley look to be cheaper than anything I've come across up to now :)

  • Just incase you have not seen it a way to reduce shipping cost of non folding tyres by folding them a bit.

might not get three loops with the big studded tyre but defiantly two.

  • Simply brilliant!.

They have changed the set up on this. Previously it had a front brake and rear hub break operated through the pedals. The rear hub brake is great for small kids. The front brake was a bit of an issue as it didnt have the headset bit and as a result the cable has frequently been ripped out of the caliper when she bar spins (generally a result of chucking the bike down and picking it up again without looking...). This keeps dad's diy skills busy!

I am surprised that they have changed this set up as I am not sure 3/4 years old have the hand strength to stop themselves on anything resembling a gradient, particulalry if they only have a rear brake.

  • rode like a madman the rest of the way, so that I could phone and warn her.

Last time I checked mobile phones still worked at quite a distance from home.

I new they had changed it and wasn't quite sure why, I will bow to their greater knowlege. The lever is very easy to pull. I have had a quick blast down the street and it stops me with a lovely skidding action. Cheers for the info though Willo.

  • Sketchy tonight. I was tired and seemed magnetically drawn to every metal manhole cover along the commute home. Lots of whippy tale action..

  • Necro-bump. :)

    Soon ...

  • Hahaha
    Necro-bump cracked me up.

  • Good thread.

The OP is a fucking legend.

  • A true 'god amongst men', some say.

  • "God"

  • Fair play a couple of the ladies managed to whip the back end around and save it. Skillzzzz

  • The double in that video at about 17 seconds reminds me of this double highside...
