  • I agree with everything that you are saying. However trackstanding is showing off, just in the way riding with no-hands is. People are just jealous of skillz. For no real reason, but they think they can't do it, when they could if they just tried.

  • lol, 'penis'

A few decades ago there was quite a determined campaign (attributed variously to students and Sheffield United fans) to paint out the 't' and second 'e' on road signs. It was mildly amusing for the first few months.

  • 33 lights in 16 miles, 10 of them red.

13.5 miles as the crow flies, and 3 minutes 25 seconds of waiting around according to the difference between elapsed and moving time on Strava.

Time spent moving doesn't count (it's leisure not commuting) so my commute takes 3 minutes 25 seconds and is conducted while stationary, at an average speed of 237 mph.

  • Last time I counted there were 214 traffic light sets between Liverpool Street and my place.

    Fucking liar!

It must've been 114 as I've just counted again and come up with ~93 for a similar route.

It was about 1 light every 195m. Now it's about 1 every 215m.

4min stopped time. So about 7% of my commute is spent stopped and countless thousands of watts lost due to coasting to a stop.

Fuck you cross London commute, fuck you.

  • what's with people thinking track standing is showing off?

i trackstand always for a number of reasons

    #boastpost

  • After a car nearly hit me as he was coming on to a round about today, I raised my arms in question of his actions as he passed me a little further down the road. He responded
"What?! I didn't fucking hit you did I ya dickhead!"
    British drivers everybody

  • Heh.

I never did both ways; usually 40 miles in then train home or vice versa.

I'm doing this at the moment, though not every day due to my shift patterns. And its 30 miles, not 40. Rode in today though and riding home at 10PM because I simply cannot stand spending money on public transport!

  • Good man jb man of my own heart

  • I counted this evening and turns out I go through 47 sets of lights in under 7 miles. Da fuq is this?!

  • #boastpost

Saying i can track stand isn't boasting! Its just frigging easy if you ride regularly and stop at lights. Saying I can do a sub 60min 25mile TT... Now that could be seen as boasting!

Clapham Common to Aldgate is 46 in 6. Every 200m on average. I dunno.. I see the phase coming up and slow down or keep up so it evens out - if red I'm not stopped for long. Hardly notice em.

  • All those fucking sets of lights and dumb fucking peds still walk, stagger, run straight into flowing traffic. Fuck I hate my new (old) commute.

  • Not on Penistone Rd. then.
When I was a lad etc. there was only one set of lights between Leppings Lane and Shalesmoor.

    My commute includes Penistone Rd.

    lol, 'penis'

you'll probably like 'the balland of penis town' on youtube.

  • 44 traffic lights in a bout 6 miles. I've also realised that my whole commute, bar about 200 yards, is on A roads.

  • Hairy commute in this morning, almost taken out by a people carrier who decided to turn left as soon as they'd passed me. Emergency slowing, unclipping and swearing ensued.

Then about 200m later a pedestrian wanders across the road, waits for one bike to go past before slowing right down to finish their crossing. Cue more slowing and swearing.

It is just me or does the rain bring out the worst in some people?

  • This mornings commute was a joy and a little bit of heaven - only touched my brakes once because I was being a girl and he rest was just a lovely spin :))

Ride home wasn't bad either ;)

  • Begin LFGSS sexism pounce in 3, 2, 1...

  • Where can I get one of these to deal with the lemmings pedestrian cunce on the commute?

  • Machine gun

    Or mortar?

  • The coastal commute was pure distilled evil this morning, 30mph+ cross to headwind with added salt spray. The wind WILL turn just enough for it to be the same on the way home.

Someone cheer me up by saying they were using a trispoke today!

  • Last night's commute was indeed dreadful. Absolutely bucketing it down, with the sort of wind that either tries to knock you off when it comes at you from the side, or stops you dead in your tracks when it hits you from the front, combined with drivers with steamed up windows who can't see you for shit.

Remind me why I bother commuting by bike at this time of year?

  • Because it makes you feel like you're living life, rather than just existing.

  • Or because the alternative is public transport.

    DO. NOT. WANT.

  • The wind was rough but ^^ basically this ^^.
