interesting points... i think formalising reffing may make organising games hard... it really should not be seen as a chore. Every team needs people to ref and therefore everyone who plays should make a bit of an effort to help out with other people's games - that's how it works, right? - you cannot expect not to ref or help out because that's not how communities work- everyone puts some effort in it to make it happen :-) . Obviously, i do not feel i can head ref (cos i cannot take the pressure and i don't know the rules) but i can goal ref and time keep - which i have done for both Div 1 and 2 and it was good fun. Come on, it's not such an awful thing to watch a bit of polo, be part of making it happen, and sipping a bit of beer. Anyway, since i am here, i must say i am totally happy how people have come out to ref our games - i know, because of my level, the games are not as exciting, so i am doubly greatful for the refs :-)
