  • Flamin' mongrels have left it all in forrin..

I think I'm after Swingtickets (hello nurse!).
"The Swing tickets entitle oral free seats in the said blocks and apply - such as seat tickets - even for foyer areas and the interior. "

What's the 3-day return ticket do?

    Anyone been before?

winston - you had details somewhere of where to stay didn't you?

    Le ?

  • The Swing tickets entitle oral free seats?
Are you sure you are applying for the right event. Do they have any oral plentiful seats?

I loved the Ghent six day

  • God, Google Translate is so utterly shit. The word used there is "Einnehmen", which in this context means 'the take-up' (of seats). It can also refer to taking things orally, e.g. "das Einnehmen von Pillen".

Die Swingtickets berechtigen zum Einnehmen freier Sitzplätze in den genannten Blöcken [...]

'The swing tickets entitle [the holder] to sit down in unoccupied seats in the blocks to which they apply ...'

  • Hippy's version was better.

  • Went to the Berlin 6 last year and attended the Fri and Sun nights. It's great.......in a very very Euro way!

We booked actual seats and didn't go into the centre. There's a pretty good view from anywhere. It does get busy so not sure how the tickets you mention would work in practice. Having specific seats may be good as you can sod off and have a beer and a curry wurst without losing your seat?

Both nights involved pretty much the breadth of events: usual endurance events, a few sprinters events featuring the German National team (starring Forstermann's thighs) and a couple of stayer events too. Apparently it's one of the only event still to use the big BMW pace bikes too. Bottom line, you needn't worry about targeting a specific night for a certain event.

Velo Veritas has a great write up of each night: http://www.veloveritas.co.uk/2013/01/20/berlin-six-day-2013-preview/

There's also some 'entertainment': the Friday opened with a female singer descending from the celing and proceeding to warble something sounding like Evanescence. I think she also opened the Sunday evening too but can't be sure. The main entertainment (half time) was then a truly awful singer called Frank Zander on the Sunday and some very crap 70s cover band on the Friday (the crowd lapped it up). Don't go expecting to actually enjoy the entertainment, but expect to enjoy how truly awful it is!

Bag loads of food and beer (and the odd bike related stall) available in the velodrome. It's located virtually on a train station and there are taxis readily available too. We stayed nearer Prezlauer Berg as there is a bit more going on there than there is by the 'drome.

General Berlin points: It was about -4degC most of the time. It's a great city. If you want to go to the top of the Reichstag you need to do an internet booking (free) and turn up with passport or other accepted ID (we did it on first night and it was good intro to city). Anna Bloms is great for breakfast (http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g187323-d948161-Reviews-Cafe_Anna_Blume-Berlin.html). Loads of good food available, just wander.

  • Yes, Berlin gets c-c-c-cold.

  • Is that another one of your German->English Google Translations, Schickles?

  • What, 'c-c-c-cold'?

You could say "k-k-k-kalt" in German to make the same point, so yes. Or no. Or perhaps maybe.

  • I think Scherrit is going Hippy, he mentioned it when I had another fit up recently.

  • He is.. with me. We're eloping to Germany together..

  • i went with Winston a couple of years ago, it was amazing. I prefer it to Gent, it is much bigger and more grand newer stadium and a very different atmosphere.

I will be going back...not this year though. I can't remember the name of the hotel, it was cool though, more like a small bedsit with it's own kitchen & very close to the (a) red light area, which of course I didn't need as I was with Winston.

  • He just kept calling you an "absolute beast". I think it's love. I'm in Berlin 16-19th, gutted I didn't plan this better to coincide.

  • We (Patricia and I) have booked for Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. We are staying near the stadium and also near Steel Vintage Bikes Showroom in Berlin. Our first time for the Berlin 6 but went to Munich for about 5 years running. Also did Gent for a few years many years ago. Looking forward to seeing the big pacers.

  • I'll be there on the Friday!
If anyones looking for an apt, VRBO is a good resource for Berlin, got a couple on there

  • I've been it's rad (pun!) I have gotten seats but it is unclear if they are needed. The center zone has much of the beers and brats. I guess the race has historically been a very berliner working class thing to go to which was surprising to me. Lots of rubbing shoulders with the local roughs (or looking down at the hoi polloi from our fancy seats). The events are as described. Watch out for the family night if you aren't a family type. Mad kids, son.

  • I've been it's rad (pun!)

    It's Fahr out rad!

  • Is it possible to buy tickets at the door? Or should I try and learn German and book them from http://www.gegenbauer-ticketservice.de/veranstaltungen/veranstaltungskalender/detail/events/show/Event/365/ ?
