Its possible that the OP has trouble getting that fixed: !Nhatt! had a similar fault (I think) on her Jack Taylor fillet brazed track bike: Was told by a few frame builders to bin it. A Jack Taylor FFS! Tragic.

Hi
I just discovered that my fork had a decently sized crack on one side.
It could be that the fork is about to completely snap.
But it could also be that the play between the carbon arm and the metal part that it is attached to played together and cracked the paint/coating.What do you guys think?

A glimpse into your near future; see where the legs have separated from the crown??

anyone got any advice?
Would it be possible to ride as is brake less?
or does it need fixing?
if so how? cost? etc
thanksRoberts are pretty easy to get to. Give them a ring.
Personally, I would take some emery paper to it and rub back to bare metal to check, but Roberts is your best bet. You may just need the joint rebrazing rather than the tube replacing. -

I just got this beautiful Klein Q Carbon Team frame, but then.....I did see this:
Three little cracks in down tube just right under bottle cage rivet.
http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/5079/jbep.jpgWhat to do with it?

Looks like some tit has overtorqued the cage bolt. Would be amazed if it affected structural integrity, tbh it looks more like paint damage around the boss.
-

Yea it looks just a paint damage, but it's really the frame. My LBS did drill the rivet out and it shows the cracks little bit better.
Lovely frame and right size for me, but fuck really...

Sorry - dumb question, it's a carbon tube, right? You might have options.

No it's aluminum...

Oh dear. That is sad.

Finally get it repaired. Because all the bottle cage holes were drilled too big for M5 rivet nuts - I get all (4) welded up, then sanded and drilled again + installed new rivets. -

That's an amazing job
Who did it and how much? -

E-bay listing...no point me nagging guy if the crack needs a repair. There's no repair shops in NI that do painting, so repair isn't economical. Hairline crack along seattube where clamp is...

I'd just drill the end or file the crack out entirely and ride it with a long post. Doesn't look fatal by any means.

Tx ^_^

I would ride that no bother, as long as rust doesnt get at it you're sorted.
-
• #47
You might want to treat the are with a rust protection covering.

Turns out it was much too large for me (by 2 sizes..) so didn't bid, somebody got a bargain at £130. Lee Cooper built so it's going to be good. I've a thorn XTC from him.

Didn't know where to put this. Spotted this crack on my pub bike. Switched the crank now. It did me well for a few years and was free so no great dramas.
Thought it was interesting. Maybe.
