Speaking of, how is your Ventile holding up?
I just committed to the same jacket (2 actually, till I figure out the fit) and look forward to trying it out in the wet. Unfortunately around here that means March or April.
Withered
Only just saw this, maybe you'll see this response at some point.
I really really rate it. Of course, there are things I could improve, but I think when you wear something literally nine days out of ten for a few years in a row, you do stretch the limits of how good a thing can be.
I've worn a few bits bare on the cuffs, a couple of tiny holes here and there, but wouldn't hesitate to wear it in pissing rain and expect it to keep it out, mostly it is as good as when I got it. It really is one of the most trusty garments I own, like a good Guernsey woolie or a decent pair of shoes. Been meaning to buy some plusses or trousers for AGES. Part of the delay is I just can't decide which. But none of it is cheap, and money's not exactly easy these days...
Keep meaning to send them my Carradice waxed cape and ask them to make an (almost) exact copy in double ventile. Waxed cotton isn't easy to keep waterproof in comparison to Ventile.
