I've been made redundant twice in my 10 professional years. First time was amazing, it was voluntary, I'd had enough, and I got a few quid out of it. Second time was horrific, handled really shoddily by the company and a crap thing to go through. I ended up out of work for six months (summer 2012) and divided my time between applying for jobs and riding my bike.
The job I'm in now is great, the best one yet (apart from a college summer job at Burger King back in the day) so in a way the last redundancy was a cool thing. I didn't once consider putting my efforts into contesting their decision.
