Once I've got it all up and running I'll probably need another project to keep me entertained for a bit so I'll look into seeing whether it's worth drilling the steel forks. I don't want to to kill any puppies or lose any teeth. On a related note, TM, are horses on the pavement a common thing in Leeds? I saw some bloke on a mountain bike nearly smash into a couple going round a bend.

Does anybody have experience with cross top brake levers used without drop levers? They seem like a very sleek and elegant lever. I'm just afraid they won't work.

Oh right! Got you. Yeah they're fine to use without drop levers and seem like they'd be much easier to set up. With drop bars though you might miss the extra hand positions you get from having the hoods.

Thank you! Yeah I know about the positions, but I only ride the top and the drops so I'll be fine. I just don't like the look of drop bar leers. They're so bulky

i fitted these forks today,
will remove the judy decal, got a killer playing card one en route, lost the old stem for a ritchey, seat post is stuck mercifully at my height, will be ritchey also when gone.May have found some choice nail varnish for re touching, or may powder coat, if that was considering powdering the bars , sorta klein like to spilt up the black cockpit

forks were nos, 50 euro, and pretty much of t' period
whole lot stands me in 100, will also rewire and add new chain
forks are heavier than originals, but for the price good value
frame is of thron steel,racing geo, and was said to been one of if not the lightest in it's class, so it should balance out for overall weight compared to other models of the same era

I undid the old and what came out looked like what comes outta me after 9 guiness and a biriyani

Touch up is alright and keep it as original as possible, there's plenty of over restored classic stuff so I hope you don't go down that route. That said it's your bike, you can do whatever you want for it but in it's current state, it shows signs of use and hopefully would be used in the future so why give it a fresh lick of paint? Paint looks pretty good.

Do you know who made the forks? You could probably source the internals and replace it.

as it was, it flew with the old forks, I kept on the wheel of some one on a colnago (poss primavera..) and the geezer turned off, I like to think cos he got the bollock ache, so I'm looking forward to trying it with a fresh chain and wires
I'll discreetly purchase the nail varnish, and try it in a few blind spots to see how it goes
