Gravity - at once fucking amazing and a big pile of toss. When the action is on and things are exploding/spinning off into space/etc. it's great. Forked out to watch it at the IMAX and it paid dividends. As a kinetic spectacle it's a massive win. Unfortunately, at the script level it is largely a failure, and every time the action stops and the characters start opening their mouths it becomes either boring or cringeworthy.
I imagine it will be absolute rubbish on a small screen.
Exactly this.
Looks incredible, but that's just masking a very very average and pretty laughable film. The whole second half is toss really. Flying through space using a fire extinguisher!? Then the ending, with the sinking (trying to avoid spoilers)...everyone in the cinema just laughed a bit of a 'this is fucking ridiculous' laugh.
