It is that time of year. The decorations are up, Mariah Carey and Noddy Holder are constantly on radio, the fleshy virus that is human kind is marching in file to Bluewater, the Glades and Regents street to name but a few, to throw money at bored, depressed minimum wage earning shop floor staff in some flourescently lit, overcrowded, understocked, overpriced hell hole buying presents for people they don't really like, which are destined to sit unused in a drawer until they eventually find there way into landfill, or a seagulls stomach, or being used in some intricate auto-erotic exploration, leading to unmanageable shame on the part of the recipient of the gift.
So, in the spirit of Christmas, I decided to make my daughter a bike. I like the islabikes, because they aren't shit. However, being a frame builder and your daughter having an OTP frame is tantamount to child abuse, so I decided to make her one, from my favourite of materials, the never-endingly fesitve Reynolds 853. I have Chris King threaded headset, some Nitto bars and stem, and I am going to source some of the Islabikes wheels and saddle, which I will then re-cover. Forks are threaded inch Columbus max profile blades, with corresponding dropouts and plug in crown.
As you can imagine, there is a deadline for this, which is quite soon. Add to that the problem of having to do real work, so I will only be able to do this out of hours, and you can see that it is going to be tight. I do have the benefit of her only being two, so I can just lie to her if it isn't done. Or I could just cancel Christmas, what's she going to do about it?Paintwork is undecided as of yet, I may get it painted to match my road bike, or that might be too vomit-inducingly adorable. If I find myself be-chundered by the mock up, I will come up with something else. Maybe glow-in-the-dark, spooooooooky!
Bit's waiting for things to happen to them.
Incredibly versatile jig, being incredibly versatile. Jig is for sale coincidentally. If interested PM me.
