I think they're not bad, but if you want me to be honest they don't do anything for me.
It would help if they would 'pop' more, be sharper, be better "developed", contrast-wise.
In the BMX shot there's just an awful lot of (boring) very dark 'background" that does not help at all.
The light is not too bad.
Maybe just the (left) half of it would have impact as an upright format.
I'd also straighten it a bit, and flip it horizontally. I know the graffiti would give it away but if it was for Nike SB I'd say fuck it.
Also who the hell rides BMX in a jacket like that?
thanks for the feedback Tina, the negative very dark background was in fact well thought out, as i said the brief stated that the purpose for the imagery was for it to be in a zine style booklet so the image was actually used for a double page spread and the dark area provided a nice platform for some white text.
other than that i don't do much post processing i try to keep that as minimal as possible, i've been playing around with levels lately and actually like the 'flat black' style. but yes i definitely need to work on my sharpening technique (or even start using one at all)
also i'd personally hate to flip that, its obviously an extremely well known spot and I feel that for the audience that it was aimed at, it would bug them that it was the opposite way around that they have seen in videos and images of the spot before hand.
also we had only just gotten there it was a rainy and cold day, so in his defence he did take it off after a couple of shots.
