The major advantage of the PC is obviously steam sales. I never pay more than around $10 for PC games now, and got such a back log I'll never finish it.
This.
And the fact that you can upgrade it on the cheap.

I think there is room for both but I don't like being stuck in a room by myself playing pc games I'd much rather sit in the living room playing xbox.

Steambox might be the best of both worlds. An awful lot hinges on whether devs/publishers support it. Wonder whether Valve will give HL3 any sort of exclusivity?

steambox is just a PC, The only real plus side is knowing the hardware will definitely work with their games.
A console like the PS4 is great if you just want minimal fuss and again you will never have to worry about the hardware being outdated -

Torn between buying a PS4 early next year and building a budget pc (around £400 - AMD FX 6300, HD7850 2GB card, 8GB ram, 1TB HDD, 120gb SSD) for the first time in about 10 years. Any advice as to which path to take?
Depends on what games you want to play?
I'd go for a PC because battlefield would be my number one game choice and it's better with 127 character keyboard. GTA is a close second, it works on PC, but if it was my main concern I'd get a console.

Confused how thats going to cost 400? Just that list is near 500 and there is loads missing? Not trying to be confrontational, maybe I just googled the wrong place to buy? Might be jealousy too as I only use Macs and they cost more for same spec? I'm aiming for a new Mini when they get Haswell and Iris...

This is a breakdown of the kind of build that I'm considering - ( I already have a 1TB hdd and I would buy 8gb DDR3 1600mhz memory from CEX for £30). I must admit that I'm may leave out the SSD drive as it's not essential.PCPartPicker part list: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/2c7v2

Impressive. I often wish there was a third option PC wise, and I'm not talking lunix or whatever it is. Surely there is another manufacturer in the world who is capable of making computers look nice and don't charge daft prices and just work out the box? I never want to build my own but the prices/specs that you can get do make hackintoshs tempting...

(Generated by PCPartPicker 2013-11-30 19:44 GMT+0000)430w psu isn't big enough imo, it will be ok for a bit but you should use a slightly bigger psu to allow for how they loose a bit over time.
Ram/SSDs from cex they buy in bulk of refurbs if they are in new boxes or they are sold in by people(often as they are failing). I know a few people who have sold hdds and gpus that had been on the blink or cooked them up to "reflow" the chips to work just for the quick(if any) shop testing.
Would avoid aria too as they have bad returns/refunds/packing. Have had stuff in the past arrive with the boxes all trashed and the stuff inside almost broken as they are too cheap to use packing so just put things in jiffy bags and let it get bashed to bits. Check scan, cclonline and overclockers or even order from caseking in germany(they own overlockers).
MSI 7850 on overclockers for £90.

Still puzzled as to why Saints Row IV is still $19... It's basically a DLC and no where near as good as Bioshock
So much this. I really, really want it but they can go fuck themselves if they think they're getting away with a dick move like that!

I've got some Steam and Origin keys I can give away.
PM me with which game you would like (NB: To the best of my knowledge, I haven't activated any of these but I may have forgotten where I got my copy from). I'll probably do this a few times so it's easier for me to answer PMs.

Part time gamer and resisted against GTA5O until I'd finished the campaign. Has been over 3 years since I logged onto xbox live and couldn't figure out how to login, had to setup a whole new profile. Got onto gtao, keep getting killed by randoms. Total noob territory. What's the best way to gain momentum online???

Quickest way is to do lots of Quick Job (via mobile), also if you kept getting blasted by kids, you can turn on the passive mode.

Cheers, I'll crack on with that.

Debunking power supply myths is worth a read. It is also worth sitting down and working out the likely draw, but from a quick glance I can't see any reason why a 430W PSU wouldn't be fine for that build. Most people buy PSUs far bigger than they need, largely because they are sold more powerful PSUs by PSU makers.
Plus if you buy a bigger PSU than you need you will take a big hit on PSU efficiency:
Power Lost: A Better Way to Compare PSU EfficiencyAs long as the PSU you choose provides adequate power you're better off spending your money on a more efficient PSU than one with more watts.

The same happens on Fifa if you swear when the ref is dolling out a free kick / penalty / card etc.
You can also turn it off though.

• #10049
I thinks that's really cool, they should build it into COD or battlefield online so that every time you call someone a faggot you trip or your gun jams.

If you racially abuse someone in fifa it'll be ignored, obviously.
