• Hi everyone,

I am selling my touring bike as it hasn't seen much use since putting it together. Used roughly 10 times. It hasn't been ridden on a tour or in the rain and I am not planning to go anywhere anytime soon, so will have to go.

This is the original ad where I bought the frame from.
    http://www.lfgss.com/thread102434.html

The frame make is unknown but it has been suggested it could be Barron because of the seat cluster/stays but I've found Raleighs also built with the same design and Orbits, although Orbit's are stamped. It does take a 27.2 mm seat post though and has lovely cutout lugs.

The frame has been powder coated and lacquered at Armourtex. Colour is best described as mossy green and it is lighter that it appears in the pictures.
There are no cracks, dent or paint chips.

I bought the Wolber tyres, the Dia Compe 986 cantis and the SKS mudguards NOS and the Brooks brand new which is in mint condition.

The bike comes with no pedals (as this is pretty much personal preference but can check if I've got anything laying around to fit to get you started if needed) but I'll include a set of used rear panniers if wanted.

    Specs
    53cm seat tube CTT
    54cm top tube CTC
Frame number 22642 (under BB shell and a bit difficult to read as is under the coating).
Seatpost: Kore 27.2mm. Gipiemme seatpost binder bolt.
    **Saddle: **Brooks B17 Champion Standard.
Headset: Unknown steel one, running smooth.
Bottom Bracket: British thread Sakae cups with Shimano axle.
Brakes: Dia Compe 986 cantis and levers. A little bit of alloy pitting on left hand lever.
    Chainset: Shimano 600 6207 170mm arms 52-42 chainrings.
Front mech: Shimano 600 6207 (tuning screws can still be adjusted but a little worn).
Rear mech: Shimano 600 6207 (good condition jockey wheels and serviced recently)
Shifters: Shimano 600 6207 friction ( I've adapted them with a washer from another set and a allen bolt as the frame has bosses for M5 type and the set came with skinny screws that won't engage. But it works a treat. Can change to a set of Shimano LX Sport that can be run also indexed if preferred).
Wheels: Campagnolo Nuovo Tipo hubs 36 holes on Mavic MA2 clinchers rims in good condition. Just a tiny bit of rust around on some eyelets. Campagnolo skewers but adjusting nuts I believe are not.
**Tyres: **Wolber tyres 700x28 with loads of thread left. Never had a puncture on them.
Freewheel: 6 speed Shimano freewheel 14-26T in very good condition.
Chain: KMC that I bought new for this bike and in good condition.
Handlebars/stem: 3ttt Grand Prix bars 42cm width outside to outside. 3ttt stem 90cm.
    **Rear rack: **Blackburn.
Mudguards: SKS commuter. Can include the safety clips that I've still got.

I'd like £450 for it please. No posting for the time being, as I haven't got the time to get it packed, sorry. Viewings/collection from Southend.
I can bring it around Canary Wharf/Liverpool Street area this Saturday 30th as I'll be in London or I can probably drop it another weekend before Christmas.
I believe I covered everything but please get in touch if you need any more info/pictures.
Apologies for the big pictures, couldn't manage to re size them.
    Cheers
    Alex

  • If you post if I will take it!

  • Pm sent

  • Wonderful

  • ^ Many thanks. Bike on hold for somebody that provisionally dibsed it via pm, will update accordingly.

  • Bike has been undibsed (not exactly what the gentleman's friend was looking for) so still available.

  • Beautiful bike that one. GLWS

  • Very nice clean build.

  • ^thanks for the nice comments.
Is this a wrong time to sell?
    Wrong size? Price?
I'll post a picture of the panniers I'm including later today.

  • Lovely looking bike. Only downside I can see is that it's a tad too high-geared for a fully laden touring bike. It really needs a triple chainset and a minimum 28T rear sprocket (those could be retro-fitted, but would cost, of course). Braze-ons on the forks for a front rack would help too - along the lines of a Dawes Super Galaxy or a Raleigh Randonneur of the same period.

Would make a good Audax bike, though and perfect for the E'roica Brittanica.

    Good luck with the sale.

  • Thanks for the comment and heads up on the gearing Eugine. I understand ideally it would need a lower gearing but it is quite flat where I live so wasn't a problem and bosses on the fork would be also good.
I'll try to get the gears better setup for touring purposes first so I'll withdraw it from sale. Thread now closed.
    Thanks for the comments.
