Graeme you're a star (I was hoping you'd chip in).
On closer inspection, both bolts are marked "L" and are indeed left-hand threaded: the Chorus is 8v, '95-'96 and the Veloce a similar vintage 8v.
I've undone them both, but I'll leave further tinkering until tomorrow: the Chorus needs new guts, as it wasn't holding the selected gear, but hopefully I'll be able to re-assemble the Veloce correctly (using the Campag spare parts catalogues).
Being on a budget (well I'm still on 8v) and by necessity self-sufficient on the mechanical side, I'd like to have a go at this myself, but I've bookmarked VT in case I get out of my depth.
