Disc brake is on. Hit a slight snag fitting the guards, somehow I managed to chop the stays too short so now the guards are touching the wheel. I've had to order some more stays. FML

Maiden voyage...
Needs shorter stem (I have one at home) -

I can't help but feel that this would truly be a 'winter beast' if it had a matching rear brake and a freewheel.
-
• #205
Rear brake? probably but not sure where you're going with the freewheel thought.
-
• #206
Yeah but I like riding fixed more and cant have a disc on the back and ride fixed. It's a pretty fun ride, just need to get these guards sorted.
It's evolved from being a winter bike to being more of a daily beater too, I'm selling my current beater so this will be getting a lot more use than I had planned.

What's wrong with fixed in the winter?
-
• #208
The great thing about disc is that the gum wall tyres will never get covered in dirt.

Nothing's wrong with fixed in the winter, I just dig SS Pompino's more than fixed ones.

Oh Jake, you so roadie.

I know I'm sorry :-(

dopestghost, what do you think to the headset? It's the Cane Creek Orbit MX, right? I was thinking about picking one up for my own pomp.
-
• #213
FSA Orbit X
it seems okay, pretty cheap but it does the job fine.
-
• #214
Ah that's the one.
Is it actually a cartridge bearing headset?
I ask because I bought an M-Part one for my pomp, labelled as 'cartridge' and in fact it's a lose ball 'set. I'm not sure how they figured that one out.
-
• #215
Was it labelled as M:Part Elite Sealed Cartridge Bearing?
-
• #216
Nah, it was the comp version.
Cheap, allows the bars to turn, hasn't catastrophically failed on me yet. Things could be worse. That said, they could be better.

I got my LBS to fit the headset, I didnt even take it out of the packet so I'm not really qualified to say how good it is or if it matched the description given on the website.

I had an FSA Orbit XLII in my rigid Cannondale street bike for 12 years when I lived in London. Not a peep from it, ever. Good as gold, smooth as silk, etc.

Some pics of the progress, still need to fit mudguards, also need someone to look at the brake for me because i'm not sure it's set up right.
I've also just had a disaster. My cog slipped on the ride to town earlier so just tried to tighten it up, the lock ring was really loose and had stripped the thread on the hub. I did a stupid and tried to fit it on the other side of the hub and it stripped the thread on that side too.
Hub is fucked, gonna have to buy a new one and get my wheel rebuilt now. #sadface

Bike looks great. Bad luck on the hub :-( I think that's something that's happened to most people, at one time or another, if it's any consolation.
-

You could always just run a freewheel or get some of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Novatec-BDW-BOLT-ON-Track-REAR-Hub-32H-Fix-Fix-single-speed-NEW-BLACK-/231086934871?pt=US_Hubs&hash=item35cddacb57
Cheap as chips but comes from a reputable manufacturer of hubs.

• #222
It was only a cheap on one track hub anyway, it's just the blag of having to wait even longer and spend even more money before I can use it.
I had fun bombing about on it briefly today.
-
• #223
What hubs are these?
-

What hubs are these?
it was one of these: http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/HUOOLFMK2/
It's completely my own fault, I think the lock ring was shagged to begin with, I dug it out of the parts bin.

Someone have similar issue with the on-one hubs that the thread wasn't deep enough.
You sold them to him for half the price of the ones I found on eBay the week before that!
