  • When have I claimed it as my own brand? This bike has been on quite a few blogs which I've stated I didn't build it.

  • Stickering a frame someone else built as your own because you can wield some spray cans really isn't on, in my book at least.

Dont think james is re-branding the frame as his and as it stands he doesn't plan to keep the name on the frame when it is sold:

I'd ideally like to sell this powder-coated not in it's current paintwork. It has the name of my business painted on the side and I'll spend the rest of my life looking for it again if I leave it as is...

    Worst sale thread ever.

Here's a lovely bike. Which you can have but first I have to make it not lovely. And I will charge you for the repaint.

And I agree with Skully, this thread is turning into a bit of a farce.

The bike looks awesome as it is and the fact that people love its current guise is surely a testament to a job well done.

Just sell it as it is and spend the cash on another frame, paint it, decal it with your business name then sell it. Oh wait...

  • I think he is entitled to do whatever he wants with a frame he owns (albeit, not made by himself) and with a paint of his own.
He could (and, given the status of this thread, should) have removed the paint first and then come here to sell it :)

It is indeed a gorgeous paint and he'll do very well as a frame painter and I would also love to see this, as it is, rolling on the streets instead of being scrapped away, but that's life, isn't it?

We just happen to have had a glance at it when we could not.

  • Anyone heard of Argos?

    Thread title suggests otherwise non?

  • Anyone heard of Argos?

Yeah, it annoys me when they do it, too.

  • a damn shame tearing down such a beautiful paint job... even though i get the basic idea of not having a prototype running around.
But please, please, please leave and sell it as is, and just be proud you did such a great job on your first try.

  • Thanks but it's already raw!

In the next few weeks I may be painting my personal bike, expect fluorescents..

  • Worst sale thread ever.

You guys should really look at it from my point of view...

I spent hours and hours and hours making this frame look that good. If a customer came to me with a frame and asked for the same job I'd be charging a serious amount, the materials where more than most people pay for a whole job. All the gold-leaf was done by hand as was the fade and other details.

Damn right it was done for advertising, why else would I do it? It's been a hit on quite a few blogs and frankly it's done it's job. I didn't take a peach of a frame and suddenly trash it, I took a trashed frame and made it into a peach, surely I have a say in what I do with my own graft?

Whether you take this frame completely raw or powder-coated, it's still £250.

  • I took a trashed frame and made it into a peach

and then trashed the peach. I don't see why you are destroying value. For the sake of £250, I'd have hung on to the frame in 'peach' condition rather than scrapping all your work on it, especially if it does have sentimental value...

  • Whether you take this frame completely raw or powder-coated, it's still £250.

    It's not worth that.

  • Or could offer a free respray....just a thought....or is that what is being offered?

  • Yeah, it annoys me when they do it, too.

Loads and loads of places do it.....not saying it is right but quite a common occurrence.....so this is not so terrible.....but I would have put it in primer then advertised it.....but hindsight is not much use.....so I don't think os deserves all the attacks....that is my 2¢!

  • Yup, price of frame raw is £250 and I can powder-coat it any colour for the same price.

Have you really thought this through? If you sell it as it is it will continue to advertise your work in the future when someone rides it or re sells it but if you thrash the paintjob which btw is amazing nobody will soon remember the whole case!

  • Paintjob has already been trashed as far as I understood :)

  • £250 for a Swinnerton 531 DB track frame is reasonable....and to be honest had i not just got a leader 722TS...i would have bought this and chosen a bright red!

  • Cherry flipping red!!
