Ridden mechanical for a year in all conditions. Had a slight issue with water freezing my cables up last winter (-10C), but otherwise no problems. I put plenty of grease under the rubber hood at the end of the cablesock. No problems since. Top up after a couple of powerwashes.
From what I've read, spyres are lighter, and wear the pads more evenly but lacks overall power. Modulation is only on par with the BB7's so it doesn't buy you any finesse.
