*Vertical dropouts with a derailleur hanger? That may seem blasphemous to singlespeed purists, and we originally were told it was just an image error, but the SSCXWC Philly team says the derailleur hanger has function beyond giving an out to the wishy washy. A simple hacksaw blade turns the hanger into a handy bottle opener, for that, you know, sparkling water bottle, since nobody encourages drinking and singlespeeding, especially this Raleigh-sponsored team.
Regarding the actual frame, it’s made from Reynolds 525 Chromoly steel, has a limited-edition paint job, comes in five sizes, and retails for $667 (better than the evil $666 says the SSCXWC team). The frameset comes with a FSA catridge bearing headset and an eccentric PF30 bottom bracket that allows you to adjust chain tension with the vertical dropouts. (Just keep the eccentric bottom bracket in mind if you’re Mr. mm and care about your exact chainstay length and seat angle.)*

Anyone know of any current alloy disc mount BB30 vertical dropout frames that can be bought as frameset for SSCX? Ideally looking for mudguard compatibility.
-
• #1454
Unfortunately most of decently prices alu frames for disc have Pressfit BB86 bottom brackets or regular BSA. There are frames out there with the above spec, but they are so expensive you might aswell hop on the orient express and go carbon all the way.

Yeah this seems to be what I've found. Having owned two orient express carbons before I'm quite keen to go back to alloy. Stripping a CAADX would work but would leave quite a few things to sell on and would end up costing ~£700 for the frameset.
EDIT: Having had a look at the FR-602, I think I'd be daft not to go for one of those.

Ta.
I've been really happy with mine and, as you say, you'd be mental not to go for one given the price!!

consensus on single speed hydraulic disc systems?
now that trps offerings have seen the market did they change anything?
what's best? what's cheapest? and what to get? -
• #1461
I had major problems with the hylex system. The pads and rotors it came with we're complete toilet.
The hy/rd calipers are supposed to be good.

I've also heard the opposite of Souls experience.
The TRP parabox system uses the same stuff and generally they are liked.
I'd take a guesstimate and say BB7 gives 80-90% of the experience. Hylex wount save you any weight, but give that little bit extra in terms of braking, and hopefully ease the maintenance.

Just get TRP Spyres - unless you are a 95kg beast.

• #1464
actually, I'm quite content with the bb7(mtb) on my sscx.
but I want drop bars on my functional 29er.
when I switch over the bar/brake setup from sscx it's far from satisfying. not enough brake power and I'd like hydro set-and-forget convenience on the functionalmobile. -

Is this a commonly held opinion? I'm very interested in the idea of hydraulics but note the ~£70 added cost compared to S500s, good cables, and Spyres which offer similar performance (60kg rider) and ease of setup. I've only every ridden cantis and never had any mud in the cable issues with them but had terrible problems with mud in my rear shifter cable when running a 1x10 setup which resulted in me being stuck in the 12T and having to abandon a race. How to mechanical discs fair with regards to this and what cables do people recommend?
-
• #1466
Ridden mechanical for a year in all conditions. Had a slight issue with water freezing my cables up last winter (-10C), but otherwise no problems. I put plenty of grease under the rubber hood at the end of the cablesock. No problems since. Top up after a couple of powerwashes.
From what I've read, spyres are lighter, and wear the pads more evenly but lacks overall power. Modulation is only on par with the BB7's so it doesn't buy you any finesse.

The TRP Spyres are good enough for me and good enough for the women's euro CX champ.
They kick the shit out of cantis and are an improvement over bb7s in power and modulation. But then again I never noticed bb7s lacking either.
Run full length sealed cables for durability.
