  • How'd you guess?

  • Was the tyres' a Schwalbe Ultremo HT 22mm as well?

  • coming along

  • What you doing with those chainrings before the Praxis half-n-halfs turn up, and what BCD are they?

  • TC24 is great for cx, wide and and will take a beating without breaking. And at 200 gbp its a steal

  • That's a nice looking frame jammy.

Am I right in thinking it's the 66cm you have there?

  • 130, no half measures now. Too cheap with the big rings!

Yep - 66cm! And still an aggressive fit for me!

  • Can you help confirm how I would mount a SRAM Apex Crankset that is currently on a Planet X Team Alu frame - I think the BB is a standard English threaded one - onto this Rose Xeon Frame with it's press-fit 30mm BB?

Will any press-fit 30mm BB fit the SRAM Apex Crankset? Any BB's worth getting that aren't as expensive as the Chris King one? This frame will be my commuting bike so the BB needs to hold up to the rigours of all weather conditions and roughly 5000 miles a year.

Also, what is the size needed for braze-on front derailleur? 34.9mm?

  • p.s. Any pics of build yet? :)

  • You need a PF30 to BSA adapter. Then you can fit the standard GXP bb required by the apex crank like you would on a standard BSA frame.

There are reducer adapters that allow 24mm axles to fit pf/bb30 bearings but I'm not sure if they are compatible with SRAM's Gxp axle which tapers on the NDS.

I should write a BB FAQ. Quality bedroom reading that would be.

Personally I'd rather use a bb30 crank than convert PF30 to BSA.

  • Thanks - I'm confused though, the rose frame isn't bb30 - it's pressfit from what I understand?

Also, based on having to get an adapter - is it worth doing so or getting a whole new crankset that is fully compatible, something under £200? The crank has 2 years worth of use already, so not sure if I should keep it or change it?

  • PF30 uses the same 30mm axled cranks that bb30 does. There are no specific PF30 cranks.

As PF30 solves some of the durability issues inherent to bb30 and your Gxp crank is low end and used I'd source a bb30 crank. As there are comparatively few frames with bb30 compatibitly bb30 cranks used or hardly used tend to be bargainous. Look out for SRAM red, Force, s-works or even 'dale Hollowgram mk i.

For what it's worth the PF30-BSA adapter looks crappy and is not cheap.

  • The SRAM PF30-BSA adaptor is indeed crappy, but it works OK. For two bits of injection-moulded plastic and one o-ring, the price is indeed ridiculous. Personally I'd be tempted to put the money towards some proper BB30 cranks and a PF30 BB, as Howard suggests.

  • OK I've been offered a SRAM Red BB30 Chainset. What bottom bracket should I get to use this with the frame?

    (Sorry to invade this thread!)

    Thanks again

    Joe

  • sram do one thats a fair wad cheaper than the CK

  • Edit should say the crank is the Exogram one which I'm not keen on.

If I was to get a SRAM force BB30 one - it should definitely work with this frame right?

  • Yes. You can fit a SRAM PF30 BB and away you go.

Or any PF30 BB. SRAM seems a fair bet though, even at £30.

Make sure you get all the spacers & wavy washer(s) with the crank.

  • yup

  • Thank you. You've all been very very helpful.

I'll stick a couple of pics up here after the build.

  • Or maybe start your own thread, don't want to hijack jammy's too much

  • For a moment there, I thought hippy merge his topic into this.

  • Doesn't bother me!

Bikes nearly done by the way chaps...

  • Looking forward to seeing this and hearing what you think, tempted to buy/build one of these myself.
