  • Is the price way off?

Open to sensible offers over the weekend then I'll put them for sale elsewhere.

  • Nice shifters. Shame they are not used as my budget can only go half way at the moment. Good luck with the sale. Yusuf.

  • Merlin have been doing 6700 STIs for £159 and 5700s for about £120 (£99 for a while too), so maybe people are buying newer models?

  • FWIW, these are better than the next gen 6700 - Shimano bowed to style and went for under the tape cabling, which adds a lot more (relatively) friction to the system.

These are as good as DA, basically. I'd have them if I didn't have a full groupset already

  • im not sure about better mate, as ive had dura ace, ultegra and 105's from this range and they all developed some sort of fault on them. the return spring in particualr, do a check online and you will see for yourself. maybe shimano have addressed this issue with the latest offering? Also, the value always drops once the new stuff comes out.

  • ^ Do you have any sources for those issues?
Genuinely interested as I don't think I've ever heard of faults like those on these shifters?

Re 6600 being better than 6700:

There's simply no way around it: the new hidden cables look better but the more convoluted routing also yields noticeably more friction than before – and unfortunately, Shimano's 1:2 cable pull ratio makes it more sensitive to that friction than its main competition. Whereas the Ultegra 6600 levers feel silky smooth, light and positively connected to the derailleurs, 6700's feel is more vague and heavier and the connection is slightly muddied.

  • not so much sources mate, but every time i began looking for solutions to all three levers i had, it always came up with other peoples posts with the same issues. maybe i was just unlucky, but my experience with them werent so good, though Shimano did repair the dura ace for for free :) i still have two pairs of dura ace i am using, and i have three pairs of the new 105 5700 range, but as the review said, i am not entirely convinced of the new range (seem flimsy and not as full in the hands), but people on Wiggle etc seem to vouch for them.

  • If you're interested, I can take them for 150 Euros with postage to Portugal included.

Not always. When 5700 came out 5600 was actually more expensive... There were some issues due to user error mainly (combination of exposed cables, spray from the front wheel and a lack of lubrication). ST-5600/6600/7800 are considered to be the best shifting levers to this day (if used with Shimano inners/outers and maintained properly; not implying that you did not look after yours) and highly regarded with touring/audax crowd.

  • Price drop now £140.
