Shit! Exactly where?
I've been hit twice near the Gyratory. Once at the 'entrance' lights northbound and by the Turkish Supermarket.
Get a helmetcam. Word...

By the second exit from sainsbury carpark, guy pulled across all the lanes and stopped real quick right next to me, passenger jumped out and floored me as they opened the door.

Arse. Hope you're alright.
The council's meant to be fixing up the Vogue gyratory to make it safer for cyclists but I don't see what they can do without digging the whole thing up. They reckon they're gonna add a 'dedicated cycle lane headed north' reducing the northbound gyratory from 3 lanes to 2 and adding that dedicate cycle lane. [1]
Proposal is for an "On-road 2 metre northbound cycle lane through The Vogue Gyratory. There will also be improved pedestrian facilities and more efficient traffic lights to aid the flow of traffic. The existing southbound cycle lane would also be widened to 2 metres through the gyratory system" [2]. Although apparently they have to work through some issues to do with buses (Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process)? which seems to be a government thing so could take some time.
Unfortunately, they also say this: "However, initial modelling undertaken on the proposals for the Vogue Gyratory is suggesting that an unacceptable level of additional delay is likely to occur for northbound traffic on Lewes Road south of the Vogue Gyratory as a result of the proposals. Therefore, further design and modelling iterations are required, in conjunction with key stakeholders, to ensure that the desired benefits for buses, cyclists and pedestrians do not create unreasonable disbenefits for other users. Traffic Orders and detailed plans for the Vogue Gyratory will therefore not be published until this work is complete and any objections received will be heard at a future meeting of the Transport Committee."

I study up at Falmer, and (particularly during AM rush hour) the VG is the only part of the commute I regularly feel unsafe on

Yeah I'm fine thanks, have no idea how but all I came away with was a bruised elbow?!
The guy was just stopping to let someone out, but pull over into me and they opened the door before i could react at all. Just really annoyed with myself for not getting the number plate. -

Sorry to hear your accident, especially infuriating that it's caused by a muppet.
Do you have a beard? That Dolan looks familiar.
-

The trick is to take primary as soon as possible from the southern ASL, then stay in the middle of the middle lane until you can filter into the next ASL and take a primary into the exit junction by Shabitat to avoid getting squeezed up against the railings.
Still doesn't stop dickhead drivers randomly shifting lanes but it helps.

I just get out of the saddle and make as much presence of myself as possible (middle of middle lane). Normally I get the jump on most vehicles at that second set of lights so I can get past that barrier without anything beside me.. Then of course it all opens up and I get to see how many people I can overtake by the time I get to Moulsecoombe, which is where I normally ease off

You haven't overtaken me yet...

I know it's a long shot, but have you asked the BP garage or Sainsbury's if they've got any cctv cameras that might have caught the incident?
You might be able to get the guys number plate from it...

Got doored pretty bad at about 6 this evening on the way home, bloke drove off. I guess its really unlikely that anyone saw anything but would be great if anyone did, or hears anyone mention anything over the next few days?
