question for you production types
I've blagged a gig at a local uni night playing reggae/dub/dancehall/tech/dubstep etc. I've got a few tunes in Ableton Live (and in process of creating more) and want to essentially do a 20-30 min set using Live in session view and triggering sets of clips using Launchpad, and hopefully (if I can suss it out) using Maschine as a 2nd MIDI controller controlling MIDI mapped knobs (for delays, reverbs, fade to grey on drum tracks mainly)
So, assuming I can get that hooked up what is best way for me to create a 'set' so I can have different Live sets mixing into one another. I know in arrangement view you can set it up like a cross fade DJ scenario, but I can't figure out how I would do the same in session view? I don't wanna have to pause to open new templates......
Hope that makes sense

My knowledge of Live is scant I'm afraid...

to make matters more complex I want to add in a couple of analog synths AND play live bass on some of it!
I need one of these

Anyone using third party reverb plugins?
UAD EMT 140, Softube Tsar, Valhalla Vintage Verb all seem to get a lot of love on the gearslutz board.
Anyone here using any?

all my plugins are freebies! Although I am tempted by izotope suite - have you checked the TAL line? They're awesome http://kunz.corrupt.ch/
I've got my first live gig with Live (playing Live, live) on Saturday at a local reggae night - playing me own bass/dub/tech stuff - hopefully I will get it recorded - it has taken me an age to get all my tracks re-sampled and arranged into a template.
I can trigger scenes and clips with the APC40 (and add effects/sends live too) - planning on trying to play a bit of live bass on one too - pray for me!

TAL stuff is excellent. I use the TAL-U-NO-LX Juno emulator all the time.

Did this yesterday and a bit of today - Jack Casady bass and Fender Tele Deluxe both feature - chug tastic - just a test master (needs work in mix and structure) - see what you think

Thanks a lot! No, I do it in my spare time. Dakko Dakko is a fairly small indie developer run by a friend of mine, so it started out as a bit of a favour, although I do get paid now. Would love to do more, and some different genres maybe. Everything so far has been quite videogame-y / chiptune-y. Not that that's not fun.
You'd like the Elektron Sid station which uses the Commodore 64 sid sound chip:

Props to all of you actually making stuff.

I'd like everything Elektron makes…! Plus an OP-1.

^ guy I'm about to start collaborating with has an Octatrack, an Analog 4 and an OP1 - plus the Minibrute, Korg MS20 Mini, Access Virus, Nord something or other - and a massive credit card bill

friend had one - he sold it - said it was pretty sterile sounding

Yup.

It has quite a distinctive 'digital' sound, you can recognise it a mile off. Not to everyone's taste. I'm a fan though. The Knife use the Monomachine and the Machinedrum a LOT.

Machinedrum is ace. Yeah, has that sound definitely

Anyone got any recommendations for largeish (49 key at least) midi controllers? Started to get into scoring for a project and playing huge strings doesn't feel right on a mini keyboard. I used to like my old Line 6 keyboard controller, keys felt nice for nonweighted, but I'm seeing what else there is out there.
-
• #174
I use an M-Audio Keystation one with a 5-octave range. The 61ES I think. Not bad, the weighting is a bit clicky but it works well. The couple of sliders are a bit cheap-feeling but the pitch/mod wheels are fine. I'm happy with it.

anyone here used this http://www.uaudio.com/uad-plug-ins/uad-2-pcie.html ?
GarageBand doesn't have aux/bus sends, does it? That makes things a bit more pro in Logic - assigning several channel strips to one bus, e.g., all the drums to one, bass to another, layered guitars to another... so you can adjust volume (and apply effects) for a whole section as one. You can also end up with several groups within one 'instrument', i.e., a couple of cymbal patterns on a different bus to the other drums. With electronic music you'd also quite often have the bass/kick drum on its own send so you can sync sidechain compression to it on other tracks.
Mixing / EQ / compression = massive can of worms. :D
