Nice. What size is it?
Think this would look awesome with a modern campag group.

I couldn't resist and first thing today was stripping the frame and giving it a fast clean. I'm really starting to fall in love with this beast. The details of Pinarello frames really suprise me.
A Montello would be crazy. I was thinking a Treviso because it's the only thing that is present on the frame. Now I learned that's not conclusive.
So I still don't know what I have in hands here. If someone could help me out, let me know.
I did notice a 5-digit serial number under the bottom bracket, but the paint is too thick to read it properly.

It's a size 56, will fit me well!
Modern group could be nice, but I'm going to stick with period correct!
I also learned that what I have here is a Pinarello Montello. I couldn't be happier.

Lovely! That would be too big for me I think, even by old standards :-(
Can't wait to see this take shape - I'm a Shimano man, but seeing this I just instantly
thought of one of those black Campag groups. Whatever you do though, that frame screams class ;-) -

I have two Montellos so.. yea, I think its a Montello!:)
(though I might be wrong, en expert should clear this up for you:))
A few things that indicate it are:
SLX tubing,
No bridge between chainstays,
Beautiful things on BB with P engraved.
And they put Treviso stickers on Montellos..
I don't remember other things that make montello a montello, you should look it up. I cant find it right now.. There was a website that very clearly stated indications.
I think weight is a definite thing that shows authenticity. Its lighter than same size Treviso by some 200g?
So before you build it up, do that.
Beautiful frame, not my taste of colors:)
Good luck with the build! -

The bb shell tells me it is a Montello, the only difference is seat stays bridge and the sticker that says Winner in 1981, not sure they were racing it at that time. Maybe it has been repainted and they sticked the first decal set they found ;)
Really nice find! -

I'm thinking about cable - saddle - handlebar tape - brake lever hoods coloring combinations. The saddle will be Concor Supercorsa, so that will be black. This leaves me the following options:
1) white cables - black saddle - black handlebar tape - brown brake lever hoods
2) white cables - black saddle - black handlebar tape - white brake lever hoods
3) white cables - black saddle - white handlebar tape - brown brake lever hoods
4) white cables - black saddle - white handlebar tape - white brake lever hoods
5) black cables - black saddle - black handlebar tape - brown brake lever hoods
6) black cables - black saddle - black handlebar tape - white brake lever hoods
7) black cables - black saddle - white handlebar tape - brown brake lever hoods
8 ) black cables - black saddle - white handlebar tape - white brake lever hoodsI'm leaning towards option 1, but all input/opions are welcome!

very nice bike

This is rad. I'd guess about a 1984/85 frame - I don't think seat tube bottle mounts were introduced until then. I'd say the decals aren't original as they split the seat tube decals into two when there were bottle mounts to avoid, and the Columbus decal looks too low...and they are still in tact! The race number mount is a nice touch. Great job.

Lovely bike - Nice to see you kept it all period-ish.
Those frames ride so much better than modern frames.

Re-dating a Pinarello:
I used to have a Pinarello Treviso/Veneto 1988/1989 (still unsure of model or year...)
http://i1098.photobucket.com/albums/g361/lasseaux/Useful%20Bike%20Stuff/Bikes%20and%20Parts%20for%20Sale/20130607_194741_zpseafdf286.jpgI was not 100% sure of the year/model as it did look like a Veneto but I could not find a similar one online - mine as the blue/white colourscheme that is inverted, chrome forks (not stamped), rear brake cable running along the top tube, Columbus Aelle and no stamps either on the rear stays.
I have found a faded sticker on the frame that mentions the 1988 Olympics, which suggests that the bike is around 1988/1989.
The BB shell was stamped PINARELLO 58 1M958 (when the bike was in fact a 56cm CTC) and I emailed Pinarello to get the right frame ID/production date.
This is what I got back:
*Dear Sir,
We can confirm that your frame is an original Pinarello produce almost from 1976/77 to 1985 but the material mounted on the bike is not produced in the same period.
Best regards,Cicli Pinarello S.p.A.

www.pinarello.com*So I guess they never kept track of their frame serial numbers... They probably didn't think the bikes would be collectible / still around 30 years on.

^ Wow. You're the only person I know who actually got a response from Pinarello...as unhelpful as it was.
To be honest there's nothing particularly Pinarello about it*, and if it wasn't for the BB shell stamp I'd say it wasn't. Is it feasible that a local Italian frame builder got hold of a Pinarello BB shell?
Are there any Pinarello 'bird' cutouts in any of the lugs? (Looks like there may be one on the HT/DT junction, but hard to tell.) They were never shy about putting a logo on everything.
I did come across a Pinarello track frame that didn't have any pantos.
I'll check the serial number against my collection when I'm at work tomorrow.
- Unless it's post 1990, which is about where my Pinarello knowledge starts to fade.

...spoke too soon. Looks like the 87 catalogue models were generally free of pantos on the seat stay caps and fork and your paint is similar to the 89 'triangle 3D' model. Maybe in between? Call it '88? The lack of pump peg on the head tube has got me stumped though.

theres a fair bit of Pinarello panto - seat stay caps, front mech bracket, seat cluster, which also looks identical to other Pinas...Plus the forks...and the bb shell. Looks legit to me, or at least a very nice copy . Beautiful bike either way

That serial fits with the 87-89 models.
Just came home with a Pinarello Treviso. I think I did quite a bargain. Frame is in excellent condition, no rust at all. Just dust and dirt.
Can't find it in any catalog though, so any help is welcome. It has a sticker with dates of 1981 on it, so I suspect it's from shortly after (1982 maybe).
Plan is to build it up period correct, so I'm thinking Campa Super Record.
I was able to take only one picture before my phone died.. So more pictures tomorrow!
