Texting whilst driving is illegal but very easy to do safely and does not need to cause accidents. Jumping a red light on a bike is very easy to do safely and does not need to cause accidents. Who is right? This is just another shit thread for people to argue on. Can it be closed? There is too much of this kind of shit on lfgss just now.

By pulling over and putting the car in park?

Yes but the big contention here is that I skip a red light , get hit by a car and on the off chance it's a serious accident I die , car driver looks down to text and ploughes into crowd of peds , 10 unrelated people die
see the difference ? -

semantics.Red light running and texting at the wheel both up there on the C*ck register for me.

He's not trying to make that point, just saying there is no point arguing about it in a slightly confusing manner.

voice to text is quite good nowadays so most people shouldn't have this issue
This, just use Siri then you only need to take your eyes off the road for a few seconds while you proof read it and hit send. Where's the big issue with that?

Using a mobile while driving effects ability the same as driving drunk. Drunk drivers are scum, so are drivers fiddling with mobiles.

it really is utterly inexcusable cuntitude of the highest order. people that do it are essentially saying: "fuck you buddy, your life is less important than this phone call"

They're not solving the middle east problem or curing cancer, they're chatting bollocks about inconsequential shit whilst driving a ton of metal around.

Combining any gerund with driving is a bad idea - eating, texting, fisting, there is no way to concentrate on the road.

There's that short Werner Herzog documentary about texting and driving. Boy, that's depressing.

This is a massive, massive problem now. It's gotten a lot worse in the last few years and I can only foresee it getting even worse. Modern smartphones are designed to hold your entire attention, with a high res display, messaging apps, notifications, unlimited data plans means if you choose, you can program your phone to go off all the time. You also have a tiny digital keyboard, meaning you need to actually see the screen, whereas before you could probably text someone with less visual attention. I know it's illegal to dick about with a mobile at the wheel but it's ridiculously unenforceable, I see so many people at it.
As a side rant people in general seem to be obsessed with their smartphones these days, I think it's genuinely an addiction. It's so neurotic.

I would never text while driving. It is clearly dangerous. Email is far safer. Tweeting is also a better alternative.

Everyone should go back to handwritten letters.

Very much so., similar attitude to some of the driver's excuse when I asked them.
They sincerely believed it's perfectly fine if they're stationary in traffic.

Ed. Out of interest what is the danger posed by a stationary vehicle?
not voice text, voice to text so you talk it writes the message then sends... but i agree the point of text is to be none invasive as it can wait. mine always do when im on my bike. my phones usually bouncing around in the bottom of my bag somewhere
