I heard another story today about alleged 'skeleton key' use when stealing a bike locked with a popular choice of lock (a good one). The person in question had locked his bike to his friend's with her lock and when they returned, her bike was still locked up there but his was gone. It's unlikely that they cut through his frame, as his bike was reassuringly expensive.
These stories have been around for years but I've never seen any clear proof of them, and it is possible that the lock may simply have been picked; one (self-alleged) witness of such a picking I once met claimed that it looked just like someone unlocking a lock.
It takes skill and there probably aren't too many thieves around who use this technique, but it is one of the oldest ways of defeating locks, after all.

Picking a single sided key barrel lock isn't hard in the slightest but doing it quickly takes practice , which lock was it out of interest ?

They lock one bike up properly but the one that got stolen was only locked up by spokes perhaps?

No, I don't think so.

Girlfriend's bike was just stolen from outside Hackney City Farm between 19:00 and 21:00, locked with a thick cable lock through frame and front wheel and a Evo Mini D through frame and rear wheel.
Photo is here: http://s1107.photobucket.com/user/thomasandrewgreen/media/IMG_0640.jpg.html
Concorde with neon green decals, any help getting it back greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Did they saw through the evo?
Worth noting as there are people out there who think it's roughly infallible..

As an evo users (along with lots of other people on here I imagine) this ^^
That's pretty shitty though - I'd be happy/content that was enough for me tbh - although the "Hackney" bit of Hackney City Farms sounds alrams bells.
Still sucks though : (

I use an evo sometimes, but only as a secondary, while constantly remembering that it's a crappy secondary because it's almost never possible to use it to lock the wheel to the frame and the stand.

Yes you can. Sort off. Is your mad awesome fixie rear clearence tight enough though?
Seriously though, I use the Evo mini but only for very short bursts and only dump the bike in very visible, high foot traffic locations. Anything more, and double locks come out.

I always carry a Fahg mini for the rear wheel. Either a mini evo+cable or a heavy chain for the front. With the Fahg snugly holding the rear part of the frame in place, it's very rare to find a stand which is the right length to allow the mini evo to get near it.
To be honest, I would have sold on the mini evo but I hurt my back and had to lighten what I carried in the backpack for a bit.

I have a friend who has over £50,000 in retro bikes and they are just stored in several sheds and his big garage, He thinks they are quite safe as no one knows about them! He is a fool to think his entire collection is safe!

Boyfriend's bike was stolen from the 2nd floor hallway today in Bethnal Green.
Black. Cannondale bad boy XL - few years old but not used a whole lot so components didn't have much wear. No distinguishing marks in any way.Not posting because we think there's any chance of getting it back - it was way too small for him anyway and he rarely used it. However - if anyone is passing through Brick Lane on Sunday and spots one fitting that kind of bill I'd appreciate a heads up.
Perhaps more so I can go and confront them and ask them what was so bad about mine they chose that one instead.
Really just posting to remind people that hallways in private blocks, no matter how small, are simply not secure so keep your steeds inside and don't let the chancers get their filthy scummy crappy mitts on your stuff. C*nts.

Sadly a neighbours bicycle got stolen last night. Thieves cut through a garage door and then sliced through this ABUS d lock.
