  • Ed you can find a right font online (here for example), then bring it to your tattooist to get it done.

Why do you want it in Russian though?

  • Because it looks more arty/less chavvy than in a regular latin font(in my mind at any rate). like the idea of it looking more of an art piece than a simple name. Hard to explain but makes sense in my head.
Had also considered it in other alphabets but cyrillic just looks right to me for some reason...

  • Fair enough.

  • ^
Ha, that was Liz's response to me wanting cyrillic too.
Remember seeing an awesome art-neuvo font on an old russian poster for something somewhere recently. Fuck knows where though..

Edit: this is pretty close, needs a little something more though, meh, got nearly a year to finalise it

  • I'd like to get a graphic-y type tattoo done which will involve characters overlapping and therefore quite precise colour changes (similar idea to the pics below). Anyone point me in the direction of someones portfolio who would be good at this type of thang. Ta

  • Love a bit of humour in a tattoo, must book with Sparkes again soon

  • ^ Love that design it's an old Bob Shaw image that originated at the Pike .

  • Sang Bleu is exciting

Phillip Yarnell now tattooing there twice a week. Now I don't have to make the trip to Essex!

  • ^ yes yes

  • Had meant to get something by Yarnell when I was staying in Southend, alas it never happened and no doubt his rates will triple in the Big Smoke.

  • Tattoo Artists list for the Brighton Tattoo Convention is now up on their web site:

    http://www.brightontattoo.com/?section=artists

Booking is direct with the artists I think.

    Get in early!

  • I really want to get tattoo'd by Pino Cafaro. Hopefully I will have money in time for a ticket.

  • ^^You going to have the same basic layout as last time? Worked well, I thought. Particularly the way the noisy events and entertainment were well away from the artists stalls; only noise in the artists' area was the buzz of guns in action. Having been to conventions where the artists can barely hear themselves think over music, the crappy banter of some compère, blaring referee horns from some dumb roller-derby event or worse, I really appreciated that.

He still works in Southend as far as I know, he is just working two days a week in London. I'm sure it will be more expensive to get a tattoo from him in London, but I'd be happy to pay if it means not venturing into Essex

  • itsabruce - the layout will stay pretty much the same, a few tweaks here and there but basically the same - afterall it seemed to work last time.

Music is in the same room as last time but we've really ramped up the spend on bands. The headliner on Saturday is worth the price of entry alone.

We've got a few more traders and the refreshment offerings should be vastly improved.

But, as always the main focus of the Convention is getting some 300 of the worlds finest artists together in one place. This is a tattoo show - everything else is there to hopefully complement this.

And you'll be pleased to hear, no roller derby and no comperes (aside from the two daily judging sessions).

It's going to better than this years show - lessons have been learned and changes made to make it better.

    Cheers

Harry at Flamin' Eight is a massive fan of stuff influenced by strong graphic design. He's also an ace tattooist generally - incredibly pleased with my last piece. Move quickly though as he's emigrating at end of year. I'm deffo trying to get something else done by him before he leaves.

Hmm £20 return train ticket versus £xxx's in higher rates, I know which I would choose. Probably also be quieter and more relaxed though just guessing as I don;t know where this new fangled shop is.

  • Long shot -- does anyone know or heard of a good artist in Rio or Sao Paulo? Any type or style, just looking for recommendations.

  • Ivan Szazi in Sao Paulo one of the best for Japanese

  • Saturday night entertainment at the Brighton Tattoo Convention has now been announced: https://www.facebook.com/BrightonTattooConvention?hc_location=stream

Neville Staple from the Specials with support from The Communicators.

Gonna be a mad old evening!!

    Cheers

  • I got tattooed for the first time in months and months today. Matt Ellis at Triple Diamond Tattoo in Brooklyn. Great little shop, really happy with it but it was super expensive!

My girlfriend got the same thing as her first ever tattoo. She sat like an absolute champ.

  • That's a terrible photo and you can't really tell but it's on the outside of my forearm.

  • I like the orange blobs.... they make it look like the arm is bursting up from a sea of creamed corn.

  • I certainly am a freckley little fucker.
