pics to show what you need?

I will take a pic as soon as I get home. Basically the usual 'square' boss on the frame that the shifter plate sits on is keyhole shaped. Hence the square ones don't fit over it.

ok pm me once it's up - if we can't sort it you might be better using band on over or under the bosses - i've frictions ones plus some modified band-ons to take shimano indexed down tube levers (rare and useful for mounting indexed 6,7,8 speed downtube levers )
what index / speed / make you running

right, here is a picture (sorry not great)
You will see the braze-ons are 'keyhole shaped' with the square part pointing up to headtube. -

sorry - not seen that before - might have to put band on ones on .

Perhaps you must try a pair of band-type Shimano downtube shifters (older model) and remove the levers from the clamp band. Perhaps that's the right fitting.

Hi,
looking at this prompted me to look at my (as yet untouched) Koga project. It would seem I have the same bosses, which is bollocks given that I have sourced some NOS Dura Ace 7400 levers for the other/square type Boss.
Having done a bit of research, it would seem that they are both (contemporaneous) type A bosses but that they are commonly referred to as Type A/M5 (square which in 7400 anyway had a light alloy inner curved washer and always takes an M5 lever bolt) and type A/M4.5 (keyhole which in 7400 had a plastic inner curved washer and always takes an M4.5 lever bolt).
In terms of shimano model nomenclature the difference is SL-nnnn-FCAI (square) vs SL-nnnn-FAI (keyhole) see - http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx?ID=40e79148-190e-440a-8cab-4bbb67c4ecad
Doesn't solve the problem but maybe gives a direction.

When you bought a shimano 600 arabesque gearset, they included this type of braze on - I probably still have the bits somewhere -

Yes, That indeed looks like the same one on the Arabesque band. I have two spare sets, think one has a screw missing if you are interested in either? I also have the front and rear mech too!

These were original kit for my Koga at least (nice photo of broken down levers):-

Anyone have 8 speed SIS shifters for the M4.5 fitting?
-
• #14
Namely the Shimano 600 SL-6400 7/8 Shifter.

Yeah I have some of these, shimano with a grey plastic cover- can check all the bits are there if you are interested. Will need to post unless you are in Cornwall!
Anyone got any Shimano downtube shifters (braze-on) that will fit my '79 Koga build? They need to be Shimano Type-A bosses as the post '83 standard ones just don't fit. I need the ones that the round bosses.
Wanna run 6/7 speed friction.
Anyone, before I spit the dummy out and put frame up for sale :(
