I don't delete rider down threads, and only merge. The reasoning is that tweets went out to Twitter, and people following @lfgss for Rider Down tweets then follow the links. The links for both threads should therefore exist, and they can only do so by NOT deleting the threads. Instead I merge, and create a redirect from the thread that doesn't now exist to the one that does. This has been mentioned before, and is now mentioned again. You don't need to reply to every post you know.
