RIP fellow rider
Was only talking to someone about them not cycling in this part of London at lunch time...

one moment he's going about his business, the moments next he's gone. it's just so completely wrong that this keeps happening.

Rip mate, i can only hope, as always, something be done from here on. Just read the article i the standard and from the witness comments this sounds really dodgy.

Some really upsetting details on that Evening Standard article.
RIP rider.

Y'know, you'd think we'd all be a bit, well desensitised to it by now - a sadly too familar tale of blue paint, cyclist and HGV.
But then when they name the victim, put his picture in the paper and you learn the smallest details about the life behind the name, my tiny heart breaks everytime.
That guy went to work one morning and didn't get home because he chose to cycle to work, apparently because he was trying to get fit. It's too sad.
If people were dying at this rate because they chose to get the tube or a bus to work it would be a national scandal. It saddens me how much little value is given to a life of someone who cycles : (
RIP Brian

My colleague saw this man be run over and watched him die. My colleague hasn't been into work for three days but will return tomorrow.
I am angry to the point of tears over the injustice of this man's death. -

A post mortem on Mr Holt was carried out at Poplar Mortuary yesterday, giving cause of death as multiple injuries. An inquest is to be held.
The lorry driver involved stopped at the scene and has been interviewed by police, but not arrested.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw Tuesday evening’s accident in Mile End Road at 4.40pm to contact the Witness Appeal Line on 020-8597 4747.

From the Evening Standard:
Second cyclist killed in Crossrail lorry collision -

Crossrail lorry driver charged over cycle death of NHS porter
It is very late to hear this, apparently the driver was charged in July this year, 8 months after the crash.
We know that this crash had a strong impact on the lorry company involved and its drivers. They have since taken on extra driver training including expert cycle training. -

sounds like certain people may have wanted to keep the charge quiet

The trial is expected to go on until the end of the week. The outcome will depend on a mass of complicated arguments between expert witnesses. The jury is likely to be confused.
All we can say at the moment is that the fact this has come to a prosecution and trial is far better than five years ago. Lisa Pontecorvo was killed in similar circumstances on Holloway road.
https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/136761/ The class VI mirror on the front of the Hansen Concrete mixer lorry had been broken off and been missing for over two weeks. Neither the driver or lorry owner were prosecuted over that death. -

On 5 November 2013, hospital porter Brian Holt was killed by a tipper
truck contracted by TfL-managed Crossrail while riding a bicycle on
Cycle Superhighway 2 on Mile End Road. In his report to the TfL
Board on 6 November 2013 (the next day!), Mr. Daniels described a
scenario that cyclists who know the area have since pointed out
couldn’t have possibly been the case. Based on his own
(apparently-erroneous) collision reconstruction, Mr. Daniels states
that the Brian Holt “appeared to be taking a short cut” and was
“cycling against the flow of traffic”: in short, Brian Holt was
breaking the law and was thus responsible for his own death. Mr.
Daniels compounded his victim-blaming scenario by announcing that the
driver of the Crossrail-contraced vehicle hadn’t been arrested and
stating “there was nothing faulty with either the vehicle or the
behaviour of the driver of the vehicle.” As it turns out, upon
investigation, the Driver of the TfL-contracted Crossrail vehicle was
prosecuted by the CPS. Since the CPS rarely prosecutes any drivers
contracted to TfL, why, on the day after the incident, did Leon
Daniels feel obligated to propagate a public narrative that
automatically blamed the victim and absolved the TfL contractor? Was
the public interest being served by Mr. Daniels's behaviour?http://saferoxfordstreet.blogspot.co.uk/
Daniels is in charge of the Croydon trams, where another driver's nodded off.

Many thanks for posting this Spindrift. I am on a mission now..
RIP, sad to hear the same combination of cyclist, lorry and lights again.
