I got an old Sancineto Columbus Gara frame with a cracked headtube from friend. I decided that this would make a great frame for testing swapping a 1" headtube for a 1 1/8" headtube. Something I have thought about doing for a long time.
Even though Gara is not highly regarded, and uses the annoying 26.8 seatposts, it does have qualities for long road rides and I like the details of this specific frame, so I didn't seem totally retarded to spend some time and money on this.
The frame was chrome under the paint so I ended up stripping the paint and keeping the brushed chrome look and just clear coat all the bare steel parts of the frame. I used Zapon. Is real smelly but seam to be keeping the rust away on frame mods I have done previously so I hope it will work one this headtube as well. If it doesn't and I like riding the frame I might get it resprayed anyway.
