Just had a look- Rourke's site is shit!

That's hand built, not custom- there is a difference, although obviously not a huge one if your goals are met by the hand built frame.

Getting that Rourke frame drilled for Di2, 44mm head tube and an extended head tube would see the costs escalate pretty rapidly

  • Do Roberts build with XCR? This was an example at Bespoke Bristol. Not sure if they build with it though for customers.

Background is a bit crowded and the build isn't the best but the frame looks nice.

  • Just one point on cost, when everyone says that £1,800 is a lot. Is that's actually a high price for a XCR/953 custom frame?

[genuine question - I haven't checked other builders prices]

Precisely this. As stated up thread, the Indy Fab Xcr is in fact a bit less than I thought - £2995 - without any extras though, such as internal routing.

'From' £1650. Without any extras, hand built but not custom and also, this is with 953, not Xcr.

Could look around velocipedesalon see if there are any non london based masters of framebuilding you like the look of

Have done pretty extensive research UK based frame builders all ready. Not really overwhelmed by anyone's work and to be honest, I'm not really interested in supporting well established builders who've been around for years. I'd definitely want it to be one of the younger, newer guys such as Tom Donhou, Jake Rusby, Saffron or Feather.

And again, this. As I said up thread, Jake is really keen to just get building so he said he'd incorporate all extras into the cost of the frame - even if I wanted to get disc brake bosses, internal routing, Di2 drillings, tapered head tube and also a fucking fancy paint.

  • To be honest I am pretty set on Jake I think.

  • I say go for it- I'd be keen to see what he can do.

  • It's your bike! The example you showed looks smashing, good luck, looking forward to seeing the final result.

  • I think I will - here are some more snaps of his work. I really do think it's impressive for someone who has only built 6 more. Not amazing pictures, though.

  • I'm sold :D

  • Same - Jake it is.

  • The third photo did it for me.

  • Wow, very impressive. get it done.

Edit: Who does his paint? In house?

  • Yeah I think JB mentioned he did the paint himself.

  • Yep - he paints it too which is another aspect of his work that I really like! Furthermore, he can do paint work too. Jake and Matt from Saffron Cycleworks share the same paint studio in their shared workshop.

  • That does look good.

  • I was talking to Jake about your bike as he used to share a workshop with Ryan - apparently Ryan asked Jake to paint it for him.

  • Is it cos hes called Jake?

  • I saw the Vulpine Rusby (the blue/green stainless frame) on Friday, it's very nice up close in terms of both paint and construction.

    Dat seat tube cluster...

Jake said no, it would appear?

  • Ha - I didn't actually ask to be honest. He seemed as though he didn't want to talk about it! Although it does look like he'd be more than qualified to do it.

  • Maybe he doesn't like orange.

    Rourke frames not custom???
Of course they are - they measure you up for hours and every frame is built to your measurements - if that's not custom what is?

  • Builder and an awesome painter? Win fucking Win!

Hard to get that from the website, it says "Rourke Handbuilt frame", other than that there's nothing on there.

Looking at the advert I'd certainly not know that a custom fitting was involved.
